Am I able to use a universal 3 wire O2 sensor?? Or do i have to spend $150 on a Bosch unit?

I just finished installing a 3 wire universal sensor on my 86 4kq.
Don't know if that solved the problem, but it did help.

Get both... 3 wire Bosch "universal" ... $33 at sasponline.com

Bosch # 13913 |
Universals are fine
There are only two technologies used and the older ones differentiate themselves by whether the sensor preheats or just measures voltage (ie why older 4Ks have a one wire sensor and the 4KQs have 3 wire). Some universal kits come with slip on heat shrink tubing and crimp connectors. Just remember to slide the tubing on before you crimp.

check importpartsauthority.com - I'm pretty sure they've got a universal for your car even cheaper.

I upgraded to a 4 wire

The same Bosch p/n is $37 there...
I've done quite a bit of comparison shopping and have found sasponline.com to be cheapest on most items.

I've used them for years, both on CIS-E cars and my V8>>
with the CIS-E cars, you have to adjust the mixture ANY time you put in a new O2 sensor.
Besides, the 13913 is not "universal" -- it's made for some car. One has to clip the round connector off and splice the wiring. |
