Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit (A5)?

Has anyone looked into retrofitting a heated steering wheel on a 2018 A5? Looking at a CPO purchase but this one doesn't have that option.

Thanks!

bruce_miranda was trying to figure out the coding here, but I don't think he was successful.

yup sorted mine out

What did the trick?

I am still waiting for the parts to arrive to wire it up properly but on US cars the install should be quicker because the Wheel and the fuse box are on the same side.

hi, did you ever do the swap? would you mind sharing what parts and how?

bruce_miranda 02-01-2019 09:28 AM

Yes did it in week 1 of owning the car. And wife is loving it. Parts will be different based on what you or what you want.

Bruce, did you happen to do a write up on the process? If not, would you mind outlining what you had to work through from an installation perspective? I just purchased a used 2018 A5 and would like to do a stock retrofit if it's not too hard/involved. Thanks for considering it.

You will need a new Heated Wheel, New Steering Stalks depending on what your car has and you want, a new fuse in the front dash fuse box, New wiring to get to the steering stalks, crimps on either side of this wiring. And then finally be able to recalibrate the steering wheel angle sensor. I had purchased all the stuff I needed before my car even arrived. Researched every panel and process in advance. The entire job then didn't take more than an hour. 40mins of which was spent, trying to get the darn airbag off!

Bruce,

Thanks for the quick reply. My car is a premium plus and does not have the active lane assist etc. I hadn't considered changing the stalks out....yet anyway. If I'm satisfied with the features of the existing set up (other than lack of steering heat), does this just come down to a wheel swap, fuze and recalibrating the steering wheel angle sensor? Thanks.
