Limp Mode 2.7 Tip

Pulled out last night and it went to tranny limp mode. Shut off, turned on again has been fine. Tip was replaced two years ago about 15k and has been solid so i'm focusing in on the TCM. does anyone know the part # for the TCM? is it the same as the 2001 A6 2.7t Tip?

There could be many reasons for it to go into limp mode. Some may not even be TIP related. Need to pull codes before starting to throw parts at it.

Vag'd it and it is the TCM

Surprisingly there is no moisture or signs of any moisture ever being in there, it looks new. but production date stamp is 2001 so its a teenager. part # on the TCM is 4z7 927 156 A
guess i'll probably wait if it does it again then seek to replace.

I can't remember but I think sometimes the magnets on the shifter can come loose and cause issues. It's just a matter of gluing them back on. I'm not sure if they would cause the trans to go into limp mode though.

VAG Code 17086

The magnets i dealt with once shortly after i purchased the car in 2006, this VAG code indicates the TCM, but the thing looks brand new meaning the box its in hasn't leaked. Since i had the tranny done two years ago its probably worth taking it back pre winter anyway for a once over and asking them to check/top off the tranny fluid. more research seems to suggest that low fluid could also be an issue, can't imagine why it'd be low with 10K on the tranny but anything is possible. i know that i don't want to fork out for another tranny anytime too soon.
