I just joined the club of B5 owners who picked-up an original S-Car. I'm taking delivery tomorrow:

It's a 1993 S4 with 177k miles. I'll do the t-belt, water pump and then turn this bad boy into my daily driver. On a related note, does anyone know how to get replacement speakers for our Bose stereos? These are shot.

I would suggest ripping out all 4 speakes and running new wire, 5.25" and 6x9". You will have nothing but problems with the stock system, headunit is garbage. But if you want to keep the system I could sell you my old front and rear speakers. Make me an offer, not looking for a lot. Emmett

What attracted you to a 12 yearold car with milage that most people would be shocked about when you could own a newer B5, B6, or even B7 Audi?

Maybe because it was only $5,000, awesome bang for the buck

That's a good question. I have several reasons:

First, I really like the I5 engine. I can actually work on it without being afraid that I'm going to break stuff (as compared with the 2.7tt biturbo).

Second, the 2.7tt engine doesn't have a good long-term prognosis in the S4. It generates too much heat for the space provided, which ultimately leads to dead turbos. I don't want to deal with that over and over again.

Third, I'm handy with a wrench and I enjoy being able to beat a car into the ground. I know it sounds silly, but I'd rather spend $5k on an old car, keep fixing it up and drive it hard - as compared to dropping a lot more on a late model car.

I hope that makes sense to someone other than me.

STFA, but wondering what mileage (how high) some of you UrS4 guys are?
 

The B5 forum seems to have virtually constant mileage "competitions" to see who's the highest. Maybe it's because everyone is paranoid about their 2.7tt vaporizing itself (ha).

I couldn't find anything similar in this forum. How high is your UrS4 mileage? Any ideas on how long this motor will last with preventative maintenance? I've heard 300k. I know this opens the floor to rampant speculation, but that's cool with me.

As I'm basically in the same boat. :)

There are people who still think 100k miles is "alot". It is alot, but if you have decent car, it shouldn't be anywhere close to falling apart.
