Misfire from 2 weak coils. Suggestions? 034 H.O., 1.8T, OEM (used or new)?

I'm in a rush as I need to drive to Buffalo next weekend. Is it worth buying used? Am I just going to have a problem in a few months (no way of telling, huh?). 034 is pretty pricey and I don't really want to make a harness and source parts for a 1.8T conversion. I figure if I buy 2 new OEM coild for $300+ and have another go on me then I might as well just buy the 034 H.O.

If you are making over 350 hp and do some track days, go with the 034 HO coil kit, otherwise Apikol

1.8t coil pack conversion. Apikol may also have a HO coil conversion (based on Corvette coils) as well now.

Ironic...I was just about to do a How-to on the Delphi Coils

Please carry on. I was wrong about Apikol and HO coils. It was 044 and 005 FPs they now have as kits

My bad. Couldn't get into the Apikol website. Just did a Forum Archives search, it was FPs not coils.

Please do. I'd be interested in hearing about it.

I'd just go new stock

I think you said at least one of the coils under there was new, in my opinion, new OE units will do just fine. Its not really a question of horsepower, the factory coils do just fine up to at least 500whp, BTDT.

how did you test them? can u use a spare spark plug in them and watch the spark?

i want to test mine without pulling the injectors 1 by 1, how did you test yours?

sk88erguy 07-06-2008 06:42 PM

nevermind i found it in the FAQ.

Just found some at AutohausAZ. $269 total vs. $740 for 034 H.O.+bracket.

Well, Actually I meant AC DELCO

From what I read they are about 60,000V of power, TT Supra's, Wankel, also ASA Corvettes are running them, plus a few 1500hp LS1's ect ect are using them.

I think 034 rates their High Output option at 60~80KV.

I'll do a write-up, I want to test them some more prior to putting this out, I almost put out the Mustang/Hayabusa/GSXR/R6 coil how-to, but i'm not satisfied with them, too much heat with the COP design, so im trying a CNP configuration like 034's
