my serp. belt keeps skipping teeth...

my new serpentine belt tensioner is giving me a headache. First of all, it's noisey. Second, it's doing something weird because my serp. belt keeps wanting to come off!

Any suggestions, other than not drive it until I get it fixed?

Thanks,
Paul

was it noisy before it was replaced?

it may be the wrong belt. The tensioner bearing could be bad causing the noise, and if it is bad enough, cause the belt to wander off the pulley.

the old tensioner was noisy. The new one is noisier.

I didn't replace the belt, as it's fairly new (only has about 15K on it).

I guess I should send it back?

Did you remove any of the pulleys?

The hydraulic pump pulley can be put back on backwards. Causing it to be off by about 1 or 2 teeth, maybe something like that is throwing the belt off. Just a thought. Emmett

Define "new". New new, or junkyard new? Bent?

UrS4boy 06-06-2005 06:39 AM

Something "new" should not be noisy. Did you get a new/correct tensioner?

parkpy 06-06-2005 06:59 AM

New new, as in $200 from SJMautotechnik, New.

parkpy 06-06-2005 07:05 AM

Nope, Just the tensioner itself was replaced.

parkpy 06-06-2005 07:05 AM

I got it from SJM Brand spankin new.

Did the belt walk with the old one, or just noisy?
