Yes, I did... Sorry, wasn't pay attention to it... We are only humans and humans make mistakes :)

What makes you think Dave is human?!?

A suggestion:
Take the four rings off, and paint the grille separate. Spray the rings an aluminum color, then clear coat in a semi-gloss.
The result will look, from a distance, like brushed aluminum. The silver rings against the black grill will be a nice contrast. |
The Dupli-Color paint is good stuff. I did my old Jetta grill with it and had no fading.
Looked new for 2 years, then I sold the car. I don't remember doing any special prep for the paint, just made sure the grill was clean with soap and water, and let it dry over night.
I also did a patio set with the Dupli-Color in white and through 2 WI winters it still looked good. Had to pressure wash it every spring, but the paint never flaked off. The Dupli-Color is different than other plastic paints. It doesn't just sit on top of the plastic, it actually dyes, sinks in and becomes part of the plastic. I think you'll be good for a while to come. |
Yes, I will go with silver rings for sure...This is just a temp. setup, black&black...
|
dont worry, the paint will hold up fine for at least a year. did you paint only the chrome surround
or did you paint the plastic grill too?

RUSTOLIUM flat black FTW, been 3.5 years now and only 2 small stone chips
did not sand either (though it was in good condition to begin with) it does however have a thumb print from my impatience putting it back on

Must deny that statement. Must deny. Must deny. Must deny.
Am human. Am human.

Your flesh covering is slipping, Librarianator...

Oooh.... looks nice. What was the procedure for refinishing...
I've got an old one laying around that the chrome stuff was flaking off of (which is why I replaced it), but maybe it's not ready for the trash can yet.
I'd love to do the same thing with it. |
