Be mindful of your trailer tongue weights

From the look of the trailer a significant portion of the car's weight will be carried buy your truck's hitch.

Your tongue weight may push you into needing some sort of weight distribution setup to avoid sag on the rear axel.

Is the trailer braked? I'd assume it at least has surge brakes for something that size and weight, but if it doesn't have any brakes, you may want to look into a trailer braking setup before you try and tow it.

Nice setup tho.

I'd like to see a picture of that!

By law all wheels need brakes. If it is too heavy upfront, I can always load the car backwards.

DumpTTruck 02-25-2009 05:51 PM

Trailer brakes are weight related. Not every wheels needs them.

Sorry but in Quebec every wheel needs a brake. From the rule book...

<b>"Quebec Independent braking system is required in each weight bearing wheel where gross weight exceeds 1,300 kg
(2,867 lbs). Brakeaway brakes are required on all trailers 1,360 kg (3,000 lbs) and over."</b>

I don't understand. It says right in your quoted rule that only trailers over 2800lbs need them

Sorry for not being clearer

Check the hitch on your truck

For dead weight towing I'm guessing it says a max tongue weight of 500lbs or something. With thr car forwards or backwards I'm not sure if you can keep your tongue weight below that figure, or whatever number is posted for weight carrying setup.

If it's too heavy you'll squish the back of your pickup and your steering braking ect. will suffer.

You may need some additional equipment if you're too heavy on the trailer tongue.

My load here is pretty level with about 380lbs of tongue weight which is about 30lbs over the hitch max for dead weight. I don't bother using a levelling system since there's no squatting on the arse end of my truck.

If you're squatting regardless of where the load is on the trailer take a look at a system like the ones in the link below. It's much safer to use something like this rather than to use stiffer rear springs or any other solution.

Happy Towing :)<ul><li><a href="http://www.reese-hitches.com/product_categories/weight_distribution_kits">Weight distribution.</a></li></ul>

Well my trailer weighs 2000 lbs, add a 3000 lb car on top of it and you have a 5000 lb gross weight.

DumpTTruck 02-26-2009 06:53 PM

Sorry I thought you were talking about all trailers not just yours.

DumpTTruck 02-26-2009 06:54 PM

And I was worried about pulling 2500lbs with my Ranger.
