Have you guys ever used a rubbing compound to
remove scratches on your clearcoat? I brushed the right front bumper agains a painted metal railing and it left a scratch, but it looks like it's just paint on paint. what should I use to get rid of it?

I have had success with rubbing compound and IHG, both from 3M

Welcome to AW Mike! I'll vouch for Mike guys...
he's not gonna pull any uneek moves on us...
and 3M imperial hand glaze works well as windy suggested... |
Start with clay bar and then you will be able to see what you are really up against.
|
Can't claybar can be a little dangerous to a "detailing beginner"?
|
Wash, clay bar, and then decide whether you need to use something as harsh as compound.
|
Rubbing compound can do more harm. IMO
|
No. It's the least dangerous/abrassive/intimidating/etc.
I wouldn't even bother using a wax or polish unless it was clayed first to remove all of the crap off of the surface. It's the best product I've ever used.
|
Try a polishing compound first,
rubbing compound is too abrasive.
|
yes, if you dont use enough solution (soap/water), and don't use back/forth motions.
if you take your time and make sure to use a decent amount of solution, I just use soap/water, you should be alright. And it makes a HUGE difference on the paint.
