Feeler post: Blue Angels in Annapolis next Wed for Commissioning week.

I'm thinkng about once again telling work to pack sand and heading out on the Severn River by boat to watch the show. I might even raft up with some friends and make a day of it.

Any possibility that any of YFFs would be interested?

Wednesday, you say? :oP (Edited)

Just thought about it, and I've got a little boat trip lined up with some friends a couple weeks later, so it would behoove me to stick around the office, for I plan on taking time off of work on the day of the boat trip.

Take lots of pics though. Last time I saw the Blue Angles, I was working the Air Show in El Toro.

Absolutely! I might be able to play hookie. We were gonna take my friends boat out...

...but the manifold job this weekend turned into a PITA. I knew the bolts were rusted, but DAMN!...worst I've ever seen. A few were so bad that the heads were rusted off!! We started drilling the heads off the rest of them, but got about half done in 3-4 hours. :/ He's gonna work on them this week; if he can't make headway I'll bring the torch down this weekend. It's what he gets for waiting 9 friggin years; I've been telling him they need to be done for the past 3. :/

Anyway, yea I'd be interested, assuming my schedule doesn't fill up. :)

Wow. Good idea. Bigger time investment for me, but it would be a nice shakedown cruise.

What would be the timeframe?

RMcQ 05-16-2006 06:20 AM

The show is at 1400 hours. Of course it takes time to get there and get a good spot etc.

It lasts about at hour or so and of course is weather dependant.

Where's the best anchorage?

RMcQ 05-16-2006 06:33 AM

Just outside of the "regulated area"

The regulated area is established for the
waters of the Severn River from shoreline to shoreline, bounded to the
northwest by a line drawn from the south shoreline at latitude
39[deg]00[min]38.9[sec] N, longitude 076[deg]31[min]05.2[sec] W thence
to the north shoreline at latitude 39[deg]00[min]54.7[sec] N, longitude
076[deg]30[min]44.8[sec] W, this line is approximately 1300 yards
northwest of the U.S. 50 fixed highway bridge. The regulated area is
bounded to the southeast by a line drawn from the Naval Academy Light
at latitude 38[deg]58[min]39.5[sec] N, longitude 076[deg]28[min]49[sec]
W thence southeast to a point 700 yards east of Chinks Point, MD at
latitude 38[deg]58[min]1.9[sec] N, longitude 076[deg]28[min]1.7[sec] W
thence northeast to Greenbury Point at latitude 38[deg]58[min]29[sec]
N, longitude 076[deg]27[min]16[sec] W. All coordinates reference Datum

they're def a blast to watch...

i have them skim the trees over my house when they come down to oceana... som-b!tches shake the house like no other, that's for sure. When they flew over last year my roommate practically fell off my deck from the shock wave and trying to follow them as they flew past... really sick!

I'm in.

when and where?

RMcQ 05-16-2006 07:30 AM

Seems like they may have enlarged the restricted area from what I remember.

I just sketched it based on the description above and they are barely even letting us inside the river.
