My 2012 Q5 started showing pit marks on the front grill after around 1 year. The Dealer told me they were rock chips. I kept after him and requested the AUDI rep take a look. After a short while the Dealer agreed and replaced under warranty.

Q5 Paint Issues

Hi folks ... new member. I have a 2012 Q5 and have been having problems with the paint on the sensor panel in the front grill. Audi has replaced this panel three times because the paint blisters and then begins to peel. The last time, my service manager called in the regional manager. She looked at it, said Germany was aware of the problem and instructed him to replace the panel. That was about six months ago. I was told the problem was with an isolated batch of parts. Wrong ... here we go again! It's Easter Sunday and I sent my service manager an email He replied and (wow) and told me he would order a new panel first thing Monday morning.

I'm just throwing guesses out there, but maybe it could be when at the factory the person person/machine popping in the front parking sensor may actually be causing the peeling. As the sensor is pushed in, it may be a tight fit and in pushing it in, starts off the peeling, and then washing and normal exposure to heat and rain or just everyday exposure to weather eventually causes the peeling to spread. Just guessing from the pics it seems to originate at or around the parking sensor.

Q5 with Peeling paint

Actually, the paint blisters anywhere and everywhere but in close proximity to the sensor holes. And, the blisters are not caused by stone chips. The paint is "lifting" (per a local bodyshop) and he suspects it's because of how the plastic is being prepped prior to painting.

Exactly like my 2014 Q5 - I've had it about 7 months and just noticed the peeling. I'll call the dealer and see what can be done....and will report back.

My license plate filler paint bubbled a month after I brought the '14 TDI home last September. Had the Q in for it's first service a couple months ago, the replacement ordered and fixed foc.

I have the exact same thing for my 2013 3.0T, have about 13K on it, called the dealer and planned to have it inspected in a week. They said they have never seen this before, although it seems pretty common from what I'm reading here.

Update

It took a several weeks, but my Audi dealership Service Manager did agree to order a new front grill and replace as "a onetime Goodwill gesture."
Hmm..

Add me to the list. I have peeling by the parking sensor. I've owned the car since Nov '12 and put on about 28K miles.

I'll mention this issue at my next oil change in several thousand miles and hopefully they will cover it.
