2013 Q5 front grille peeling

My folks just recently picked up a 2013 Q5 in November, and when my dad was finished washing it (washed at home), he noticed that the gloss black paint (is it paint?) was peeling off at 2 spots. Both peeling locations were located next to the little bumps for the sensors. I did not see any rock chips/marks around the area.

I am assuming that this is not normal? Out of a $60k car, I would hope that it does not peel or chip away due to washing. I am planning on contacting our dealership tomorrow to see if this will be covered under warranty, which I most certainly hope it is given that the car is less than 6 months old.

Anyways, is this a known problem? Are there any chances that the dealer/Audi will turn us away on this one? Thanks!

It's not the one in this video is it? Who'd be surprised if there was peeling on that one? haha

I am seeing this too on my 2013 Q5. Brought it in to the service dept and they are ordering a new grill to replace it. Hope this doesn't pop up again and they've figured out what caused the paint adhesion issue.

Do you have a picture of the problem?

Ours is perfect. It's also not paint. It's simply the final surface finish of the molded plastic panel. Are you sure that it's not protective shipping plastic that was left on, or partially stuck in those areas? I found some of that in the rear, inside the tailgate liner. It can look like peeling finish, but it's nothing more than the shipping film.

But, obviously, photos would help. Whip out your phones, people.

This is definitely a paint issue with the gloss paint peeling...

That's a lot worse than I was picturing. It looks like the part is defective. I would ask the dealer to replace it.

Yeah. Indeed. Something wasn't prepped right from the get-go.
What I meant to say, is I don't believe it's paint, per se. I think it's a "plating" process, similar to what they do when they chrome plastic trim. In this case, it's a gloss black "finish".

Either way, hopefully it's a hassle-free process to have the dealer order you a new panel.

Yeah, it's just the plate insert, so have the dealer replace. Its a minute swap out on the part.

That is almost a photocopy of the peeling in my wife's car, same side as well
