Audi transmission - who manufactures ?
Hello again !
While I´m in the "finding out mode": Does anyone know who´s manufactoring Audis gearboxes ? Before I bought my Q5, I´v mostly been driving Saab and Opel. Gearboxes in those cars mostly came from Aisin Wagner. A Toyota owned company (Aisin Aw + Borg Wagner) that manufactures transmissions/gearboxes to a lot of car companies: Toyota, Citroen, Volvo, Opel, Saab etc...Specially the "Trip Tronic" gearboxes are in most cases manufactured by Aisin... Before I start another "parts investigation" I wondered if one of you "Audi Veterans" knew if VW-Audi is manufacturing their own gearboxes/transmissions.... ? |
ZF is a major player for OE on Euro cars. This is the main supplier to Audi now.
Getrag is another name. |
Interesting about ZF. They recently announced a plant expansion here in Alabama, as they make axles for Mercedes as well.

The Q5's transmission is the ZF 8HP for the 2.0T and the ZF 6HP for the 3.2.

Do you know which transmission it is for my Q5 2.0 DTI-170, with S-tronic (7-speed dual clutch transmission) ? |
Okay, not to many answers, so i spend some hours with a little "internet" transmission investigation :)
As far as I had found out, Audis S-Tronic transmissions are a development from Borg Wagner, and later licenced to VAG. Wikipedia:In late 2008, an all-new seven-speed longitudinal S- Tronic version of the DSG transaxle went into series production. Volkswagen Group internal code: DL501. This was initially available in their quattro all-wheel-drive variants, and is very similar to the new ZF Friedrichshafen-supplied Porsche Doppel-Kupplung (PDK). |
