2022 Q5 middle console gear shift panel trim

I have a new 2022 Q5 Prem+ and dislike the middle console gear shift panel trim in high black gloss.
Is there anyone who makes a replacement that is a direct replacement fit to the stock one?
I can find tons of them for 2018-2021but nothing to fit a 2022 without the touch pad opening being to big. The new 2022 has no touch pad and a storage area in its place that is a smaller opening size than the 2019-2021 Q5s.

Thank you very much for any help!

This is the Gloss black I would like to change to a mat or metal color with no gloss.

The 2021 and 2022 are identical in this respect.

I took your advice and ordered a 2021 trim and it is too big for the opening where the old touch control unit was.
So the 2022 Q5 trim is not the same size as the 2021 anyone have a correct answer?

Thank you for any help.

The US MY 2021 and 2022 are the same: glossy with storage bin. Only US MY 2020 and older have the bigger cutout for the MMI control panel. ROW has a non-glossy with storage bin, could be 80B 864 241 E 6PS but need to be confirmed.

Thank you for this information, but I have to ask who is ROW?
Thanks again!

Rest Of World, which is anywhere outside of the US (and Canada in some cases). The part number seems to be available in the US but for $300+ a little expensive. European online stores seems to sell it for less than 100 Euros.

Replacement for Black Glossy Plate

Were you ever able to find a solution to replacing/repairing the glossy black gearshift plate in your photo? Horrible design choice; easily scratches. Your help much appreciated!

Sailor21662 03-25-2023 10:13 AM

And, I should have asked, do you know the Part No. for the plate?

Sailor21662 03-25-2023 10:14 AM

Did you find out the Part No. for the plate?

I found this on eBay for $48.00 fits like a glove and very well made.

Sailor21662 03-26-2023 11:28 AM

Thanks.

I gather it is a stick-on to the existing plates, rather than a whole new plate(s)?

Do you happen to have the link to e-bay that you used?

JBN40301 03-26-2023 01:12 PM

eBay link to center consul

Yes it is a stick-on and I used some extra 3m auto trim tape red that is double sided from amazon a 15' roll was 9.99 the consul with shipping was 89.00 so far I am very happy it is a great fix to the piano black gloss trim I did not like at all.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I will try it.

It's too bad one cannot find a replacement for the piano black piece itself since I don't mind the redwood outer piece. I believe it is "easy" to remove the black piece itself (separate from the wood).

Hard to believe Audi uses this black plastic that scratches so easily in place that is quite prone to being touched by other objects. Nutty

JBN40301 03-26-2023 04:04 PM

I agree 110% I dislike the piano black, that is why I have not moved up in the line from an SQ5 to any higher level they use more of it in the upper models.

is that a one piece for both the piano black and the wood? is is it 2 separate pieces?

I did like to get rid of the piano black, but i have the brushed aluminum trim (which I am not a fan of either) but I did rather have that over the CF....But on the other hand I did rather have the CF over the piano black :-D

JBN40301 03-28-2023 11:22 AM

eBay link to console cover

It is a one pc. unit and very well made, I normally wound not ever do this to my Audi but it fits like a glove. I did use some extra 3m trim tape to help keep it in place.

Yeah, I didn't want to cover up the carbon fiber trim in my 2023 SQ5, so I ended up removing the piano black trim plate and wrapped it in a satin black vinyl myself;

If I could have found a replacement trim piece or even an "overlay" that only covered the piano black portion on Amazon/Ebay/AliExpress, I would have gone that route instead (I have a carbon fiber center console overlay on my Tesla Model 3).

The piano black trim wasn't difficult to remove and wrap it, but definitely remove it first vs. trying to wrap it while it's still in the car (lesson learned).

@CreoS4 well done!! Perfect

Scotty (UK) 03-29-2023 08:39 AM

Could you provide some idea of whats involved to remove it please?

You have to remove the volume knob trim piece (where the small cubby is) first, and then you can remove the piano black trim.

There is a T20 torx screw underneath the rubber mat where the (small) right side cubby is, below the volume knob, that needs to be removed. Then, starting at the lower left corner, I used a nylon/plastic trim removal tool to gently pry up the piece and I worked my way around counter-clockwise to the upper left corner (the whole piece just pulls up once the screw is removed). Disconnect the wiring harness for the volume knob and set that trim piece aside.

The piano black trim piece (photo above) is just held in by clips, so I just used the trim removal tool again to pry up the piece/pulled straight up.

This thread is good to see where the clips are, and you don't need to remove the shift knob if you're only removing the piano black trim piece;

Any tips/tricks as to how to wrap the piano black trim so one is not left with bubbles/creases/folds etc? Do you have photos of the final after wrapping?

I found it easier to lay a rectangular piece of vinyl down on a table with the adhesive facing up, and then lowering/gently pushing the piano black console trim down onto it. Most of the trim is pretty flat so it's not too bad, and I used a hair dryer to heat up any areas where I needed the vinyl to adhere better/lay flat. I also took my time using an x-acto knife to cut the vinyl to the shape of the trim (you'll want to use a new/sharp one).

Thanks so much.The hair drier is smart; I should have thought of that. Wow; you've really done a fabulous job.

My I ask from where/how you bought the "satin black vinyl"? The look is terrific.

Thanks, and I used the "VViViD+ Satin Black Premium Adhesive Vinyl Wrap Film (1.5ft x 5ft)" from Amazon;
