You're right. The BMW bean counters have been full of themselves for years. Almost every car mag who does comparison tests with a 3 series GAVE the nod to the BMW. NOT ANY MORE. BMW is losing some of its market share in the US. Incentives and leases with inflated residuals and the imagined prestige of the BMW image is keeping BMW sales going. If BMNW doesn't address their inferior interior(Leatherette is just a euphemism for vinyl seats) they will continue to lose customers. Some say that Audi has cheapen the interior on the B8 S4 as comparison to the B6/B7. If they have, it is not by much and it is still light years ahead of what comes in the 3 series. The Dakota leather in the 3 series LOOKS and feels like vinyl. Maybe done on purpose?

I was looking at the BMW 330 but the Audi styling won me out. In 2005 I gave up the TT as I felt like putting my infant soon in the rear seats was bordering on child abuse. I've been missing Quattro ever since.
The Audi comes with modification that can't be made to a beamer. 1. A well thought out and elegant interior. 2. Great seats 3. And Quattro.
Regarding the M3. I wasn't impressed by the test drive. It had lots of power but was lacking in handling, at least in the 4door that I demoed.
I only wish that Audi would resurrect the Rs4 again.

Very surprising to hear. I've driven all three, and my opinion is very different.

Ha, good luck with that. I said that at first but now I've got a list of mods I want that is $10k long :)

I have to agree, Audi has a lot to learn with regards to handling, especially compared to the M3.

Granted, the M3 does have slightly more serious hardware (suspension and tires) to reach that goal. I have always looked at the B8 S4 as falling between the 335is and the M3.

I think that's fair to say, except in bad weather.

The S4 is a fantastic car. It isn't practical for me, but I'd love to have a B8 S4 and my E90 M3 (EDIT: By which I mean it isn't practical for me to own both). I know one of the board members on here has that garage and I think it would be the best.

I just have to talk my wife in to replacing her GTi with an S4 when the time comes. ;)

My brother has a 335iS and I posted a quick comparison with lots of pics of them side to side which can be found here if you're interested:

In summary, you would be happy with either car and neither is significantly better taking winter out of the equation. Just gotta decide what's right for you and your situation and what your small little likes are.

I just can't see how you take winter out of the equation though if you live in the northern half of the country or Canada. Here in the DC area winters are pretty mild but I can expect ice or snow at pretty much any time for about 3 or more months, that's a big chunk of the year. Maybe I need two cars!

I agree with this, but in terms of just handling, the 335 has better than the S4 (unfortunately).
