Any Thoughts! Stoptech or Porsche brakes for a B5 S4??

I'm trying to decide on a Big Brake Kit. I've got a chipped B5 S4 w/ Bilstein pss9 suspension. I'm leaning towards the Stoptech 332mm kit or the Porsche 993TT kit that ECS tuning sells. The car will see track time w/ club racing events. Any thoughts on a brake setup. I'm trying to order something ASAP...I haven't been able to locate anything used.

go w/ the StopTechs. they use Porsche calipers anyhow.

My 355mm stoppies did great @ the track.

No, they do not use Porsche calipers. They use their own design that uses a common pad profile....

that's used by Porsche in some old applications.

I'm pretty sure the Porsche system uses Brembos and the Stoptechs are

Brembo biters.

I have the Porsche brakes (993TT "big reds") and have tracked them extensively

While I have been extremely pleased with them and with the proper racing pads (porterfield r-4 or hawk blues or more aggressive), they are confidence inspiring on the track.

Having said that, when I bought them several years ago, Stoptech was a new company and they did have any active racing programs utilizing their brakes. Also, I was sensitive to them failing and not getting long term support.

Now we all know how successful Stop tech has become and how well they have performed in racing applications.

So I don't think you will lose with either. I will say that the build quality of the big reds and the rotors are top notch even if you do get a bit of spider cracks in the rotor cross drills. but by the time they get extensive, you will have to replace the rotor anyway.

The only nit I've heard about the stoptechs is their "all weather" (e.g. snow/salt) durability. I am an all weather driver and the big reds have held up great in horrendous conditions.

If I had to go with a new set today, I might pick the Stoptechs, but then again, the ONLY comment I usually get from those who know nothing about the S4 is... wow, those are Porsche brakes???

if you read into this, the key that should trigger something in your brain about Stoptech is

"They use their own design...that's used by Porsche in some old applications."

Using other people's old technology while they've moved on to better things...
