Gas odor after filling up?
Anyone notice strong gas odor after filling up lasting for hours? Even with careful fillup without topping off and creating spillage?

You still may be filling it up too much. When the pump stops , don't put anymore in!

not sure why youre smelling that...but I can tell you what it’s not...
virtually any gas leak in that system will cause a check engine light. Even if you leave your gascap loose, you’ll get a check engine light.
I’d try filling the car only 1/2 way up and see if you smell it.
00 S4 tip Silver/Onyx GIAC ECU/tip “race” chip (14.4 in 100 degrees) V1 |
Thats your back window, the gas tank is further back ;-)

That's funny, because I put in every little last drop that can be retained (read overflow puddle)

Get it checked!
I had a fuel leak at the gas tank and and there was never a check engine light.
The dealer said the leak was due to a rolled seal at the fuel sending unit. A forum search showed a couple others apparently experienced the same problem. |
I had that too
The gasket at the fuel gauge sending unit was folded over, and leaking. Check under your car and see if you have gas on the plastic cover just ahead of the rear axle. If you do, you probably have the same problem. Depending on how bad it is, you may or may not see the check engine light.
