He's wrong alot but he does have a point about the power : work required ratio

The 2.7T can be made very powerful with not a whole lot of work put into it (Stage 2+)...at that point with some other accompanying modifications you can run pretty well into the 12's...however right there is where you hit a brick wall b/c for any additional power mods the motor has to come out.

IMO If this guy wanted a car he could easily work on in his garage with some basic tools then he made the right decision not picking up the B5 S4...

Maybe this is a safety feature in the 2.7T S4....

Easily modded to get approx 45% more HP. If the turbos were an easy swap, there would be just too many crazy fast S4's out there j/k ;o)

DP's even sound like alot of work for the back yard mechanic (but doable). BTW, did I read you were installing DP's? How did it go? I would like to do it eventually but don't wanna pay 10hrs @ $70 for the install so I would be doing it myself.

He obviously isn't totally clueless, but he makes a lot of dumb assumptions IMO.

I agree - from stage 2+ to stage 3 the price performance ratio goes way down

For stage 3 its ~$6,000 for the kit, $3,000 for the install and you are going to need a beefier clutch, and maybe a transmision rebuild (especially if you have a 2000). So figure at least $10-12,000. That gets you what? 70-90 hp and 100 ft-lb over stage 2+? You get close to that for Stage 1 at $800. That's more than TEN TIMES reduction in price performance ratio. Now if you got an extra 700-900 hp and 1000 ft-lb of torque for that money, well then maybe.....

I put everything back together last night

I just need to bolt up my cat back exhaust tonight and secure my relocated 02 sensors...then it's time to go for a spin. I'm sure I'll have an evil grin >:D

It's a pain in the ass but it's do-able. I'm going to post the installation notes/instructions.

cool, look forward to reading the write up

This is the LAW OF DIMINISHING RETURNS and.......

it applies to almost everything in life. The higher you go, the more an equivalent gain will cost. Same is true in audio equipment, computers, etc. It is even true with stock vehicles. Really...how much better is a $330,000 Bentley than a $80,000 S8. ($250,000 price difference) On the other hand, the S8 is far superior to a $25,000 Ford Taurus ($55,000 price difference)
