So APR is gonna finally offer a setup with torque?

Something Abt/AMS, GIAC, MTM have been offering for ages.

Skydive@AI 05-24-2002 10:40 AM

I've been mixing for the past couple of months...

3.75 Gallons of 101 (Trick) $15.00
12.5 Gallons of 91 (+/-) $20.00

This yields a tank of 93.4ish pretty easily.

It runs me about $35/Tank and comes from a Texaco station about a mile from home. The car is silky smooth, and I don't ever ping.

For locals, the stuff comes from the Texaco on the northwest corner of Vanowen and DeSoto in Canoga Park and *always* runs $3.99 a gallon. (This is significantly cheaper than 76's 100 juice which is usually about $4.50 or so.)

Ah, more brand loyalty/slander.

APR makes plenty of torque.

They made it pretty clear that most of the parts involved are picked right from the Audi parts bin

...why try to re-invent the wheel if you don't have to...esp when there's no clear advantage.

In my personal experience...

having ridden/driven/abused other cars with Abt, APR, MTM, GIAC X and Neuspeed. APR does not feel as torquey throughout the power band like Abt, GIAC X and MTM.

Matt H. (Silroan) 05-24-2002 02:41 PM

There's a reason for that...

The 'feel' of the car can be misleading. APR programs a very smooth chip, flattening out the torque curve. Now, this may lead to the feeling of having less torque, but it's not necessarily the case. Not to take away from other tuners, but I would describe their feel as more 'raw' and 'kick ya in the pants'. Whatever does it for ya, ehh?

Kent L 05-24-2002 02:45 PM

Indeed torque is misleading...

but it is what gives the S4 its character. Massive amount of torque at any RPM.

All chips are about as fast as each other. But torque is fun and better for "everyday driving", this is what seperates them from each other.

I don't know anything about dynos but I was there and he's posted the video

I don't see what the big deal is. His car is never going to be that way again why argue over how much hp it had.

Jason @ Streetwerke 05-24-2002 04:40 PM

Well, I've driven the Gumball car WOT and...

...she goes like stink. It felt like my full APR Stg2+ with 100 oct plus an additional 40hp. That was on 91 oct out here in CA. So, that's right around the 410hp mark on 91 fuel. Surprisingly, Darth Maul pulled much harder than my car in the low rpm band as well. Even in 2nd gear, the torque was a lot more than my car (K03s). It was very nice. I think this kit on 100 oct is going to be a monster from idle to redline. I would say 475hp isn't impossible, but we'll see what APR's dyno says later on. I can't wait to install this kit and offer "demo" rides on a road course. Mwuahahaha!

Re: Indeed torque is misleading...

And the torque on the K04 kit is out the wazoo. It can barely be called a curve, it's more like a huge plateau, loads of it all through the rev range.
