Both engines have forged internals, in fact the 180 MAY have better built wrist pins (20mm in the 180 vs 19mm in AWP 225 motors).

Also the 180 has a higher compression ratio meaning you have the potential to get more power from the same set up.

If you are going to build it up, get the 180 and save the $4k for the project fund.

Taken from your own link, the AWP does have 19mm wrist pins but is not a 225 HP engine! the AMU and BEA are the 225 HP engines and they both have 20mm wrist pins. Only the 2000 model year 180 HP engines had the 20mm wrist pins all other 180's after that had 19mm pins.

I see the point you are making but the 225's are a beefier engine, including the block. I dont know how significant it is and probably either engine will be able to handle huge amounts of power if built properly but the 225's are in fact better made.

Yeah, you're right. I just get a little miffed at everyone saying the 225 is a much superior engine.

So, block is different also?

From what I ahve found so far, only rods and pistons changed from the 180hp to the 225hp in the longblock.

As for CR, I'd rather have lower than higher in a boosted engine. You can always make better power with boost than CR.
