Default MMI Update cost

I have a 2005 Audi A6 with the original MMI installed. Anyone know how much a dealer charges to update the MMI ? I have called several and they have yet to call me back with a quote...

More specifically I don't and will not do it myself. Just curious if anyone had been to a dealership and has a quote on it ? Thanks

is the process tough, I am too afraid to perform the update myself. But when some guidance I think I could do it.

im assuming they prob wont quote u a flat fee but they may quote a range
y?
because it may take a few takes for the service to be complete
or a few takes of the cd to transfer the data to the car
and thats assuming they dont mess up
and one pass/take of the CD may take 1 hour each
they're service rate is prob around $80-$100 per hour
they like to keep the advantage position
they like to be able to say "oh the service took longer then we expected ..it took 2 1/2 hours ..u do the math
if they quote u a flat fee they will safely overstate the length of time and if it takes less they prob wont tell u

but this is my .02
and yes im biased bc i have had terrible experiences with terrible dealers causing me to hate almost all dealers

its not tough but "tough" is relative ...some people find burning a CD tough... some people find itunes tough
u r basically putting the disks in and letting the car to do its thing

heres the complications
the process requires for "the whole transfer process "to be UNINTERUPTED from beginning to end
and the process requires you to watch and read the end messages
it will communicate for a specific CD to be inserted or even the SAME EXACT CD REINSSERTED

my best guess and i repeat GUESS is to y people brick their MMI

1-the process may take 2 hours or more they forget or dont know that the car has a battery save mode and will shut off the power to the car interrupting the process *keep car running or get a battery maintainer

2- version 2750 and below have to be upgraded to 3360 before upgrading to a higher version... in other words ..u cant jump from the base version to latest version... (for those that dont get it...its like not being to go from windows xp to windows 8 and being forced to install vista first then win8)

3- people probably dont read what the messages are... if it says the bluetooth portion is NOK which means Not OK it basically means it didnt get to that part yet and needs another pass of the CD
and people dont read that and never reinsert the disk and incorrectly finish or continue

i was successful on my 1st attempt but i did not just get the disk and pop them in... i spent hours reading and 2 hours install
this to me was worth it...to others they would rather pay the dealer...both is fine

i would highly recommend reading and rereading the sticky and reading and rereading the other valuable threads here on AW and also AZ
then build your self a procedure sheet... a step by step
its what i did

Can you share your negative experiences at a dealership ? It really sounds like they took advantage of you .
