To be clear, I wasn't tailgating at all. I myself only used the light one time many months ago when it was really foggy and I did notice that people behind me all moved over to other lanes. I never used it again since then no matter it's foggy or raining. It might only be useful in heavy down pours then people will have flash on already.

These lights are clutch.

We had a 2-vehicle caravan (my S4 -- an early 2018 model built before they ditched the rear fogs -- and a rental SUV) driving from Big Sky MT to Jackson Hole WY on a major 2-destination ski trip this winter. With adaptive cruise control set to comfort mode @ max distance setting, which can use radar to see right through the fog to detect and slow for slower-moving obstacles in front, and awesome rear fog lights to increase rearward viz for my caravan, I led the way.

Here is a photo a passenger in the SUV following me snapped as we descended down a valley into what felt like hell (and a bonus picture of what it looked like on the approach before we entered the fog). The SUV was maybe 10 car lengths back, max.

Now, tell me these lights don't add value? They were dropped for the American market in part to save costs, but mostly because American drivers aren't trained on how and when to use them (or more importantly, when not to use them which to minmet's point is "most of the time").

^^ Agree completely. I hope Audi considers putting the feature back in their line up.
