Tint... any regrets?

Anyone tinted their A5 Sportback and had regrets after?

Have an appointment to get mine done in a few weeks and i am afraid the time is making me have 2nd thoughts about it.... anyone did theirs and regretted it and if so did you remove it?

nadddd 08-16-2017 05:35 AM

What are your worries? I live in a hot climate, so a tint is a must on all my cars. Mainly to keep the heat out.

It's more about the look than the heat (except in the summer when i am sure i will appreciate it) I am just concerned it will take a way from the car. I haven't seen any black SB with tint yet so thats why I am having a bit of doubt.

I've seen a few on white and silver SB and i am definitely not a fan of the tint with them.

Tint and looks are up to each individual person! You know what you like.

I think every S5 or A5 must have tint. They all look better with it. Obviously you don't. If you're hesistant I'd hold off.

I regret that i live in a state where even 70% on the sides and rear is playing with legal fire... otherwise i would definitely get some pretty dark tints all around (once i actually get my order)

WOW!!! That looks really nice. I think the darker cars it looks good. I am thinking about the 35% Ceramic as well.

Thanks for the feedback... will keep you guys posted on my decision. :)

No tint for this slightly modded S5, I've had for 5 years. Yes, looks better but I'm a brown person that does not want to give law enforcement any reason to stop me for improper equipment.

The 3 states i drive mostly are all the same 35% Law... so i should be fine :)

freesole 08-16-2017 06:21 AM

Personally, I will be tinting mine for sure. I think the vast majority of cars look better with some varietal of tint on them than not.

skuzapo 08-16-2017 06:21 AM

Keep in mind, even if you are clear by the letter of the law, if you are at the maximum legal tint you are inviting attention to yourself. If youre willing to accept having to deal with a pull over to talk with a cop and potentially have your tint tested every once in a while, go ahead. Particularly if youre in a group that they may want to hassle (for racial, age, or any other appearance reasons) this is something that should be in your thoughts

Very good point to consider. Thanks!

No Regrets

No regrets here. Mythos black with 35% all around, outside of Chicago.

No regrets.

35% on my previous A5, 50% on my new S5.

50% tint looks perfect, seems like all the glass has a even shade to it. Did you do the front windscreen too?

anfnj22 08-16-2017 02:06 PM

Ceramic 35% all around here, just enough to look good and block some of the sun, without causing any issues seeing out of them at night.

No regret's for me. I also think all cars look better with tint.

Nope... just the sides and rear. It was an overcast day when I took the pic, so it looks darker than it really is. :)

noragrets 08-17-2017 04:26 AM

My advice: go light, like 50%. Dark shrinks the car.

bluaudi 08-17-2017 04:39 AM

I have to think about the percentage. Mine is black with black interior so i know even if i put the 50% it will appear darker just because of the black interior. I am going this weekend to see some samples in person of the 35% and the 50%

No substitute for checking it out in person, but FYI, mine (posted above) is black over black, like yours.

Thanks!!! I think i've made my mind up and go for it. Will post some pics once it is done.

Mine goes in Wed and will be doing 35% on Mythos Black. I will post pics once I get it back for you

Just confirmed... mine is going in next Tuesday for Tint and XPEL treatment on the front. Will post some pics when I get her back.

Where did you get it done? I am in the area too and was thinking for mine 15% but maybe too dark?

That would look terrific, but might draw some attention from the cops. I could be wrong about this, but I think the only way to clear a ticket for tint that is too dark is to prove that you've removed it. I was tempted to go darker, but I don't want that hassle if I'm ever stopped and ticketed. That was more of a concern for me because I'm rolling the dice with no front plate.

Anyway, my dealer (Audi Morton Grove) gave me the name of the guy they use. He came to me and did the work in my garage. As far as I can tell, that's how he makes a living - mobile tint installs. I'm happy and I can't see any flaws so far. His name is Jose Contreras. Give him a call or text. I'll obscure the number to try to save him some spam:

2 2 4 2 6 5 3 2 1 1

Or you can email him at:

Let us know what you decide to do.

StrellieS5 08-28-2017 09:24 AM

Thank you I will reach out to Jose! I got my Audi from the same dealer :)

s5ecific 08-28-2017 06:10 PM

Just got mine done.

40% FormulaOne Pinnacle Ceramic tint all around. Really happy with the choice as it allows for the Magma red to be slightly visible up close.

Also did Xpel Ultimate on complete hood, bumper, fenders, headlights, A-pillars and front portion of roof before the sunroof. Shop also threw in the back bumper cover and the B pillar.

Looks reaaaaaally nice!!! I'm dropping mine off tomorrow and picking it back up Wednesday night. Getting Tinted tomorrow 35% Ceramic and then XPEL front with headlights on Wednesday. Will take some pics and post as soon as I get it back.

3cat 08-30-2017 01:46 PM

@ s5ecific is there any color change where you have the Xpel installed vs the non Xpel parts?
I have a Ibis S5 and worry about the xpeled parts looking yellow.

I did a lot of research on film for the same reason. Many places online will say that PPF on white cars is a bad idea. The 10 year Xpel warranty against yellowing was a big reason I went ahead and did it. Installer did say that the film technology has improved significantly over the past few years and it should not be a problem. He did also add that maintenance plays a big part as well (wash the car at least once every two weeks, make sure to remove any bug splats / droppings within 24hrs, etc.). So far it is virtually unnoticeable and I am glad I did it.

zoepup 08-30-2017 05:58 PM

Is the a.m. antenna in the rear window? If so would ceramic be the tint to get to not lose a.m. radio reception?

bluaudi 08-31-2017 03:36 PM

As promised... after 2 days I was able to pick it up today. Just a few photos to show the tint. I'm EXTREMELY happy and no regrets :) Thanks for the advice guys, especially @dadrocker since you have the same color and interior as mine which definitely helped making the decision a lot easier.
