I've had three generations of Audi keys, starting with:

#1 Flip Key

#2 Then this style:

#3 And now, this style:

Buy far my favourite was #2 - small, easy to hold, didn't press buttons accidentally, always knew what button you were pressing, etc... I guess there is desire to change constantly, but #2 was pretty close to perfect.

Yesterday I walked around the car and noticed the trunk was closed and then walked to the drivers seat and sat down. I started the car and noticed that the trunk was open.

so annoying. The fob is just too sensitive I imagine. I couldn’t find a cover that worked in the past. I had an idea to cut an old credit card and tape it just over the trunk button since I never use it. I’ll see if that works.

There is something "off kilter" with the etron key fob. When we first got the car we experienced the rear trunk lid opening unexpectantly. We pulled into a parking spot at the mall; my wife had a key in her purse and I had one in my pocket; both of us got out of the car and headed to the back of the car. As soon as we arrived at the back of the car the trunk lid popped open. We reported this to the dealer and was told a software update should fix the issue. For a long time we didn't experience this issue until recently it happened twice in one day getting into the car. I think it was caused by loose shorts that allowed my leg to rest on the key fob. The only problem with accepting that is it takes two clicks to open the lift gate. So there could be some other action upon the fob that triggers the lift gate. Finally, there are many reports of Audi lift gates opening unexpectantly in various models.

The software update addresses the sensitivity of the foot-opening functionality under the rear bumper. Wat you're describing sounds more like an accidental key fob press, which has been happening to me fairly often. I asked my dealer if they could code an old-style Audi key fob to work with the e-tron, and they said no.

Had the E Tron for 3 weeks so far and this is the most annoying thing so far. The trunk opened three times when parked. Twice was right after I plugged in the charger at home. the other two, just randomly after I just parked and walked away from the car. The keys cant be that sensitive? I am so afraid it will hit something randomly and cause damage. I have a q7 now and my brother has a sq5 and neither of those cars had one episode of this happening in 4+ years.

Had this happen the other day as well. The key was in a loose side pocket of my jacket. Very hard to believe it was pressed.

I was on a trip with luggage and whatnot in the back so it was especially frustrating.

This seems to happen to me once a month or so. So far only at home, and little additional harm done as I've padded the garage door. A couple of scratches.

I am NOT an OBDeleven customer, however, this is a tweak that OBDeleven claims that it offers (Disabling and double click)

DISABLE REAR LID OPENING WITH REMOTE KEY
- Disable opening of rear lid when double clicking the middle button on the remote key
- Alternatively set the value to "0.40 s" to keep the function, but only with rapid double click.

Adaptation
Control unit: 46 Central Module Comfort System
Name: Heckklappe öffnen durch Doppelbetätigung der Funkfernbedienung
Value:
Time window for double-actuation
Old value: 1.40 s
New value: 0 s

"Heckklappe öffnen durch Doppelbetätigung der Funkfernbedienung" = "Open the tailgate by double actuating the radio remote control"

I disabled it, 0.0 seconds. Seems to work. Lights flash when pushing the tailgate opening button on the key, but tailgate does not open.

@WetEV can you tell me a little bit more about ODB Eleven? Where did you buy it and what model do you recommend? Any other significant features that would make it a worthwhile buy?
