What does a dying fuel pump sound like?
I first noticed it when I brought the car home, there was an odd buzzing that continued long after the ignition was off...I was standing there in my parent's driveway, admiring the new car with them, when my mom noticed the noise. Faint, but loud enough to hear outside the car. It even happens after the car is closed up and locked, but not always. Recently I've started noticing it while driving. Not always consistent, it may buzz for a few seconds then stop.
Does this sound like a dying pump? Any other possibilities besides my fuel pump making this noise? I'm getting an 044 relatively soon, but maybe sooner than expected...
TIA.
Had new fuel filter, plugs, cap, rotor, air filter...
Replaced with oem bosch and the new pump is quiet as can be. Got rid of almost all of the hesitation/powerloss. Still a little bit when full throttle but I suspect a vacume leak and/or boost leak.
Old pump had metal filings in the filter and copper hairs sticking out the bottom...signs of a dying pump
Anyways not a horrible job just sucked with half a tank of gas and single digit temps.
Do your self a favor and run her almost empty before diving in.
if you suspect it, replace it.
Getting stuck in the middle of nowhere in the freezing cold was not worth the money i saved by not replacing it on time.....i actually ended up spending way more after all said and done.
if you have over 150k miles i'd replace it "rapido"

Gonna check it out, and the pump will be getting replaced soon either way.
Hopefully the coldest days are over, and I have AAA just in case ;]
