Description:
Very well-maintained 2004 A8L (4.2L V8) – Light Silver Metallic. This is the best car I have ever owned. Used primarily on weekends. Selling because I need different wheels for the new driver in the family. Comes with both key fobs.
Purchased 7/2016 w/ 80k; current mileage is 126k (driven less than 6k per year)
On a scale of 1-10...
Exterior 8/10 - a few bumper nicks and two small hood dings, courtesy of the prior owner
Interior 8/10 - mainly delamination on some of the switches and the center armrests. Seats, especially side bolsters, are very good.
Tires - Conti Extreme Contact: 2 relatively new fronts (6/32 thread); rears are >4/32
81,370 – timing belt and water pump
87,500 – upper control arms, power steering pump, 5k Xenon headlight bulbs
100,000 – spark plugs, stabilizer bar bushings, inner and outer tie rods
106,385 – rear ceramic pads and rotors
110,800 – left EPB motor, serpentine belt
116,017 - front ceramic pads and rotors
125,650 – oil change (always Mobil 1); new air suspension pump; new shift strip/dust cover.
Every spring - evap and sunroof drains cleaned.
As it sits, there is nothing major needed. Other than recoding the fog lights to activate with the parking lights, there have been no mods done - with the exception of adding 'ghost ring' entry lights on all the doors. The battery for the telematics was removed because it was causing a parasitic drain.
Here are the "warts":
- trunk motor (old version) temperamental on opening but closes fine (nothing new in the D3 realm).
- no Bluetooth (sorry kids).
- Front passenger seat memory does not work. I replaced the seat control which has Component Protection on it (and I refuse to pay the dealer to remove it).
- MMI screen sticks occasionally. (I have the replacement gears but not the time…)
- left rear fog light bulb is out (not an issue in my world since I do not use the rear fog lights.)
- passenger side flex pipe will need to be replaced. (I had one flex pipe replaced while on a road trip; the shop did not have two on hand.)
- valve cover leak (seasonal). I have the new gaskets (but not the time).
I have a bunch of extra parts that I have amassed over the past eight years, including an extra rim (with road rash); spare trunk motor (old version); three brand-new TPMS sensors; touch up paint; multiple control modules and cores (p/s pump; air suspension pump). Also included is my Amazon "Poor Man's" VAG-COM.
