Default Location of the Keyless Entry Ignition module

I am having lots of problems with range on the remote, and I've searched the forums and it sounds like this is related to the TSB on the ignition module for my 2007 Q7. Obviously out of warranty - can anyone tell me exactly where on the car this module is located?

I've looked at what I can find for the service manual but the pictures always are generic and look more like an A6.

Thx

I have also bad fob range on my 2007 Q7. Will changing of the keyless reader help?

One example:

No it will not. A VCDS scan will tell you if you have a bad Antenna. You have total of 5 though the Q7/ #s are R134, R135, R137, R138, J723.

Sorry have to ask?
1. did you change the battery and reprogram the FOB?
2. Did you replace the bad FOB with a new battery at the same time then reprogram the FOB?

This should help in reprogram your FOB.

1.A6 (4F), A8 (4E), Audi Q7:
a. Open the vehicle mechanically with the key.
b. Insert the key into the ignition lock and switch on the ignition.
c. Switch the ignition off again.
2. If the synchronization does not help, check the battery of the remote control. The battery voltage must be 3.0 V or above.
3. If the battery voltage is below 3.0 V, replace the battery and perform the synchronization again.
4. Check whether there are any interfering senders nearby.
5. Check whether there are any interfering senders in the vehicle.
6. If interference was responsible for the condition, explain the technical background to the customer.
7. If the synchronization procedure was not successful, adapt the remote control key(s) to the comfort system central control module, J393 (46), using the VAS Scan Tool. Follow test plan J393-central control module for comfort system, adapting remote control key via adaptation (channel 21). Sometimes following the "erase all memory positions first" test plan produces better results.

The problem with bad fob range has existed for the entire time I've had the car (3+ years) and I have tried several different batteries for the fobs. Finally I bought last month a new fob from the dealer (with programming) but nothing changed.

VCDS has not shown (I scan errors quite often) any error codes regarding the antennas. Only showing errors for keyless door handles.

You have said the magical reading. The door handles giving you a error code which means one of them is bad and it is causing a open circuit to J723 module.
Below is a task on how the J723 works. it needs a complete circuit 360 to have range for any of the 5 antenna to work.

Tasks of the Keyless Access Authorization
Antenna Reader J723

(The Keyless Access Authorization Antenna Reader J723
is only available in combination with the Advanced Key)

Assessing the signals from the four proximity sensors
in the doors.*******

Activating the Access/Start Authorization Antennas
R134 - R138.

Communicating with the other components of the
Access/Start Authorization System through a local
single-wire bus.

Below is the code on which door handle it is.

Driver Outside Door Handle Touch Sensor -G415-
Front Passenger Outside Door Handle Touch Sensor -G416-
Left Rear Outside Door Handle Touch Sensor -G417-
Right Rear Outside Door Handle Touch Sensor -G418-

To test the system before buying some dealerships have a spare for testing cause it will cost around $250.00 but it is not painted which they will get you around 100 to paint.
I know ordering on line can save some money from the OEM. You might have the 1st gen model, I know they are up to 3Gen.
If all 4 are bad cost is pretty high if you want the range back?

Hope this gets you in the right direction.

below is the diagram.

Thanks for the information, I did not know that faulty handles affect also the antenna operation. So when all four handles (touch sensors) operate without error codes, antenna range is normal?

Here in Finland keyless handles from the dealer cost 309 € each (part number 4L0837205B), 600 € ($650) installed. I've had a dozen of these handles, some new, some used from Ebay. They all break within 2 years of use, usually the touch sensor dies and after some time also the stop button dies.

One handle was directly from local dealer, broke after 18 months, was replaced under warranty, now after another 18 months the same handle is giving errors.

The part number is always the same, what do you mean by 1st/3rd generation model?

1st Gen handle and 3 Gen handle
It is the rubber button that gets damage from weather, water will get inside then destroys the electrical system.
PN will be the same just the handle will be made different.

So these 3rd generation handles last more than 2 years? Is there any way to check from the handles their generation?
