Daily driver -::- welcome home!

Daily driver. was mine for 2 years and loved it.

I knew someone would figure it out for me, too many clues ;-)

Since my Stage 3 S4 is now totalled (y'didn't hear?), it makes the decision harder.

I'll be rollin the rental until I sort it out and get a payout from the insurance, and let the RS6 rest in the garage from its long voyage home.

Works as daily driver but could get expensive. How much warranty left?

I used mine as a daily driver until Dec 05, at which point I had piled on 50K mi in two years and four months -- averaging nearly 1800 mi per year. That's a lot, but as long as it was under warranty, I was OK with it.

Now, tho, I face a couple of issues: 1) continuing that sort of pace will be expensive because even though I have an extended warranty to 100K, tune-ups alone are pricey & are mine to pay from now on (figure $3K at 75K mi); adding miles at a fast pace means tuneups come up faster too; 2) continuing that pace also will wear out the car faster, obviously; and, 3) more miles = less value at resale.

Bottom line: If I could afford it, I would drive this car into the ground and not worry about it -- just get another if it wears out, right? But I do have to watch my spending, so recently i got a used Pontiac Vibe as a "beater" to absorb many of those previous daily driver miles. I may not be saving much money, with the cost of insurance & all, but my RS6 will last longer at this reduced pace -- and I appreciate it even more after driving the Vibe.

Pontiac Vibe?!? Ouch! I have CPO until 7/2010.

You don't need another car then. BTW before the Vibe I had a Crossfire SRT6...

...which was great for the first few months I owned it in Florida. But then I developed back problems, followed by a return to Michigan and its crappy roads. I could no longer comfortably drive the SRT6, so I had to sell it. No more low cars for me!

I took a financial bath selling the SRT6, did not want to repeat that experience, still wanted to avoid continued high miles on the RS6, and I needed higher seating. Ergo the used Vibe, which adds utility to my "fleet" that I didn't have before, and I won't take much of a bath because it already was cheap. (Utility = being able to carry small furniture in the back, lay down on completely flat floor if tired or in pain, and do it all while averaging an honest 27 mpg city/hwy on regular unleaded. Seats are comfortable, ride quality decent, and mine includes aftermarket stereo upgrade & stylish Einke wheels .)

High performance? For that I drive the RS6!
