3 Days with my A7
I took delivery (finally) of my A7 last Thursday, and wanted to share my feedback after a couple of days with her - given I have been on this forum for months, reading and worrying whether some of the issues reported here would be same for me.
My car: A7 Prestige, Quartz Grey Metallic, Nougat Brown, Fine Ash, LED Lights, Bose - and all the rest.
Here are my impressions:
> This car is the most beautiful and futuristic sedan/sport-back on the road today (OK - maybe I am biased but my friends and family think the same thing), way above the Panemera or the CLS. People see it on the street, they stop and stare, some take photos. There are as yet so few A7s around the place, which adds to the mystique.
> Low and wide! I read a review somewhere that the A7 prestige is like a cougar ready to pounce ... and its such a great analogy. This thing looks fantastic especially from the back and the front.
> The LED package is so worth it ... I was unsure about this when i was ordering but now I am so glad i ordered it - the LED turn signals are so cool, the LED headlights are fantastic and super bright. I think the back lights (U shape) are futuristic looking and awesome.
> Road noise?? I don't know what kind of roads you folks are driving on (I am in San Francisco and the roads are not great) but they only place i noticed real noise was a freeway on-ramp where they have rough combed concrete. Everywhere else - yes you feel and hear the road but its sport suspension and the Yokohamas are not the softest. Definitely not an issue (and I came from a Range Rover Sport, which is like riding a cloud).
> Bose Stereo - is not bad at all. Yes when you turn it up high you are going to get distortion, highs and lows fade etc. But for the average joe like me, I don't think its anywhere near as bad as I had been reading
> Cockpit/Lighting - what can I say. Its probably the most well thought out and tastefully lit car I have been in. The little details like the lighting on outside door handles, the tron-like lighting on the door sills, and then when you get into the car - lighting at your feet and on the sides of doors, the brightness of which you can all adjust. The red hue from the cockpit dials (typical audi)
> Drive - plenty of power and when you need it, the paddles work great and are very responsive. You are doing 80 before you even realize it - and all while keeping the RPM below 2 thanks to the 8 gears. I will say I do wish it was a little louder (and i see others have gone and put on better exhausts). However, the quietness of the engine also keeps with the modern/futuristic theme of this car - it does not really bother me.
> The 20" wheels look and feel amazing - coupled with the low center of gravity, this thing sticks to the road no matter what. The steering also feels stiff and perfectly tuned.
> BEWARE - if you get a prestige package, of driving it into a kerb when parking. Since its so low to the ground I almost ended up hitting the bodywork (again, i came from a Range Rover). Don't even perpendicular park - its too risky.
> Overall - to me this really is a top of the line motor and meets the high expectations of the price tag and german engineering at its best.
OK - you can probably tell from above that I am completely in awe of this car, but it truly does stir emotion in me I have not felt with a car in such a long time (I have owned many Audis). When i park it, and walk away i cannot stop looking at it. When i park in a public place, I worry some idiot will ding it ...
I have not as yet found or noticed anything that bothers me... i feel sorry for the guy in VA who bought the lemon as thats really what he got.
