Heads-Up and Warning-Failed Thermostat

Before I post an update I'm still waiting on AoA. You are not alone. fwiw - I did not have the plastic water pump.
After speaking with AoA throughout the month I can't emphasis how important it is for us, the consumer/community to file and document these issues by calling AoA. Especially for the B8 Audi S4 owners who have the metal water pump. The community can not let something like this go under the radar, we must be vigilant and compain/inform AoA. At the very least we need all cases to be a data point for them. With that being said. I have nothing but great things to say about the customer service that handled my issue at AoA They were attentive in my asks and did keep me informed as promised throughout the month working as they worked on my case. I still ended up paying out of pocket for the labor but parts were free of charge and come with a 12month or 12k warranty. The tow was covered as well. I again pleaded that this is a known issue and perhaps the part itself (whether plstic/metal) is defective. At the moment there wasn't enough data on the metal water pump so nothing could be done. I seriously doubt this claim and find it hard to believe the handful that have complained represent the population at hand. I was able to have them at the very least extend my powertrain warranty for an additional 12months/12k miles just like the replaced parts. Not only did I speak with an agent, I escalated my concern to the supervisor as well.
I'm happy that I wasn't in any danger, finding a safe place to park so I didn't kill the engine. But again, perhaps there are others out there that weren't so lucky. My overall concern to them was, if you know about it, why don't you fix it. If the water pumps are failing erratically between 2k-52k regardless of the plastic/metal pump. Doesnt' that seem fishy?
Overall - I'm pleased with how AoA kept me in the loop but as a current owner, I'm not pleased. Will I be a future Audi owner? Probably not. Nor will I recommend this car to prospective owners without mentioning this ongoing problem. My 2 cents. I hope this is a data point for the community.
