A lot of 80 mph on 90 in NY and Mass which is never less than 32 mpg. Never expected such good mileage and have checked it the old fashioned way as well. The wife does a good job trying to kill it though with all of her short shopping trips to the mall and grocery stores. Pedal to the metal right to the light and then a hard brake.
I just drove on a relatively flat interstate highway with cruise at 68 mph. When I first got on the highway I filled up at one of the rest stops, then 260 miles later filled up at another, never leaving the highway and keeping cruise on all the time. My DIS indicated 32 mpg and I did the math and got 31.6. This is with a 2016 A6 2.0 P+ quattro with about 18K miles and one passenger, no luggage. There were some hills of course here in upstate NYS but no really steep or high elevations (200 ft. to maybe 600 ft.).
I drive like the old fart I am and am confused by the numbers other drivers are getting. My 2013 A6 2.0 P+ quattro was about 1.5 mpg worse and my 2010 A6 3.0 P+ quattro another 1.5 mpg lower.

I'm actually on a road trip right now. This is the first day of driving just to get out of South Florida to Mobile, AL in my 2.0T CVT. Cruise control was on 76 mph, but I have found that mileage tends to decrease over about 65 mph, and head/tail winds make a few mpg difference at highway speeds. A/C was consuming about 3/16 gal/h according to the efficiency screen with temps hitting 97F.

But this is actually nothing special because I've been averaging 32 mpg over the entire 55k miles of city/hwy driving that I've had this car.

And this is the second day of driving. I was on I-10 in Texas and it was the first time I've seen a 75 mph speed limit. Which means everyone was doing over 80 and I was just going along with the flow. The car was totally stable with no shakes or vibrations. Wind and road noise were hushed. Steering was precise with no wandering. Can really tell that it was built for the autobahn. I think I will get some 80 mph speed limits tomorrow in West Texas.

I am thinking the 2.0T work a little harder at the higher speeds, requiring a little more fuel. When I go on business trips, the smaller engine cars usually get lower gas mileage on highways that have speed limits of 65 - 70mph. Was in 4 cylinder Toyota Camry and got 31 MPG in Alabama two months, got around 34 MPG in the 6 cylinder same model car two weeks ago (2 hour drive from Atlanta to Montgomery). Was in camero V8 last year and got great mpg on the highway, tried to justify the rental cost with fuel savings, but that was a no go (it was only a few dollars difference per day...).

People here will be happy to see that you stopped the car before taking the picture.

I too decided to stop the car before taking this picture (actually, morning after trip when I washed all the dead bugs off the car)...this was a trip to Cincinnati and back, mostly highway at 80 MPH with the traffic.

Could be, but my 2010 A6 with the 3.0 was worse than my 2.0 in terms of mpg's. On a level road trip this past weekend at 65-70 mph I did get 35.5 mpg, so maybe it is the hills near me that kill the mpg.

Day 3 which will be my last day of full driving. Had the cruise on 85 mph as I was powering up the hills (2,500 ft) on I-10 in West Texas. The little 2.0T didn't even have to downshift staying at about 1,900 rpm with the CVT. Mileage was going down though, dipping into the teens up the hills. Can't match the 40+ mpg of the TDI but then again I think they were over $10k more than my 2.0T CVT.

My folks borrowed my TDI for a roadtrip (and left me their pleb benz) - apparently they only managed 40 MPG cuz my mother drives with a lead foot...

Pops (in heavy Russian accent): "HOW TO DISABLE SPEED WARNING?!" (which is set to 85)
Me (not in a heavy Russian accent): "... by not speeding?"
Pops: "IS NOT ME, IS YOUR MOTHER!"

I gotta say I didn't expect the "mcfuzz" to have parents with a Russian accent.

on a side note occasionally when my wife drives my a6 she sets the speed warning to 70 and laughs a bit when I drive off.
