Default ZA: Auto light and rain senor

Hi i hope any can give me advice my audi a4 b7 automatic lights and rain senor warning comes on now i know it is located behind my rear view mirror my question is this there will be times web it doesn't come on and times it will come on so i don't know if it is the actual senor cause those times it doesn't come on it still turns my headlamps on and everything works fine so my guess is a loose connection or fuse any idea where I can look for a fuse for it or where the connection is exactly as i said it sometimes does not show the sensor faulty and it works fine so any advice will help before i have to take it in

Mind you during the day I've tested the rain senor and light sensor and ut works 100% without that error massage on my dash so its not that the sensor is completely dead and never works again and also the error doesn't always appear it dit appear once in day time and a few times during the night but not always there are a lot of times where it will be fine for days like auto Turing on lights and wiper and at random times it just gives that error until i get home go to bed and when i wake up in afternoon evening is fine again) and I don't fiddle with anything behind the rear view mirror nor the fuses i just drive home with the error go to bed and afternoon everything is fine again it happens at random

Check with VCDS to see if any codes show up. Also what is status of battery - Audi electronics seem to be very sensitive to voltage fluctuations. You might want to check the connections around the mirror arm housing as well..

The weird part about that error what i did was turn on my car press the little button on my wiper so my wipers will wipe once (don't know why but it always helped my automatic wipers to work) so it wiped once i pour water on the sensor and my wiper came on so i turned on my auto lights and it came on but all I dud was pour water on my car sensor nothing else and it's not that my car windshield is dirty it gets washed 2 times a week but all of a sudden no error and everything is fine so any real ideas

I’m having this same problem! Intermittent problem, sometimes when lights are set to auto, dash doesn’t light up but needles do. Auto wipers still work too, might just be our cars are getting old 😢

I got it to work again by simply removing the plastic cowl/cover surrounding the mirror, unplugged and plugged back in the electrical wires and it’s working again. Quite an easy and hopefully somewhat permanent fix.

Item 6 from link above, but search for same part number shows many other options that are far lower cost. YMWV.
