Default Has the AUTO HOLD function been cancelled in NA?

I just got my Scuba Blue AR yesterday, love it...it's tecknik version and I ordered the full packages of the assistant functions, except for the Audi connection.

So far everything is fine. But I noticed that there is no an AUTOHOLD button, which is very helpful while you are driving in towns or cities. As the AUTOHOLD is very popular among the VW's and Audi's vehicles, it is very surprising and unreasonalbe if it's been cancelled.

I am in Toronto, I looked through the Owner's Manual but could not find any indication regarding the AUTOHOLD. Then I checked the Audi.ca, I found there is a AUTOHOLD button beside the Parking button in the Gallery pictures, while it is a blank button in my AR!! It's really weired! How ever, when I looked through the Audi US website, it's also a blank button there....

I wonder if this function has been cancelled on all the audi's vehicles luanched in the North America area? Anyone could offer more informaion?

Thank you.

Auto Hold hasn't been available in North America for several years now on any Audi model. I believe it was briefly available around the 2008/09 timeframe, but not since then. Hill Start is still standard, though, which automatically holds the brakes for a few seconds to allow changing over to the throttle pedal w/o the car rolling back.

I thought the brakes will hold until you press the accelerator.

No, they only hold for about 2-3 seconds to avoid overheating the ABS pumps. Auto Hold is basically a combination of Hill Start and the e-brake. It will first hold the brakes using the ABS pumps and if the car is stopped longer it automatically engages the e-brake.

OP, I forgot to mention. When you come to a stop, you can simply engage the e-brake. It will automatically release when you get on the throttle again. That's basically manual hold.

I've always found Auto Hold to be useful in certain circumstances. I was puzzled when it left the NAR market. I've heard a number of reasons why it went away, but for me it always comes back to VW/Audi treating Americans as idiots.

US cars have "H" and "C" for oil temperature (meaning Hot and Cold), "E" for empty/"F" for full, and "PARK" displayed when the parking brake is engaged. Everywhere else, oil temperature shows actual degrees in Celsius, "R" for reserve/1/1 for full, and the classic (P) symbol. It's honestly kind of insulting at times. As if we don't know what a parking brake looks like?!

Even stranger, VW is bringing Auto Hold back on many models with electromechanical parking brakes. My 2017 Golf R had it. 2017 CC and 2017 Touareg do, too. No sign of it coming to Audi vehicles.

Let's also not forget that our $25K Golf with DAP can parallel and perpendicular park automatically. I noticed when retrofitting Park Assist to my A4 allroad that the reflector mounting on US cars sits slightly below the area where the additional side sensor would be needed. Both cannot co-exist. If Audi is to ever bring this function to the USA, the bumper would need to be redesigned. This singular discovery - to me - means it isn't happening anytime soon.

Thanks all repliers. Especially wdimagineer, good statement.

It's really not reasonable for Audi to cancel the AUTOHOLD and the automatic parking functions. I can't understand why it is, but if it was about the safety codes or laws, why other vehicle makers could apply the smilar function on their selling vehicles? For example, the Honda Civic, even for the most basic version pricing at CAD 16-17 thousands, the AUTOHOLD is available on it, while my Audi AR which costs 3 times more isn't. It's so sarcastic and absurd!

And the tow hitch kit! This is another inexplicable function loss on this practicle oriented vehicle.

I have no idea why, North American Vehicles are always lack of features compare to most part of world. my fully loaded 2021 A5 have no auto hold too, and no lid on center console storage , some interior trims are matte plastic instead of piano black, no alcantara on door panel,no flat bottom steering wheel option available, oak wood is not a option with black package... exterior lighting is not as cool as most other countries too, for that I do understand It's due to the law.

I've retrofitted both Auto Hold and Park Assist to my allroad. wdimagineer, THE gotland green allroad was my inspiration, so I mean no disrespect by the following comment; I mounted my front side sensor above where it belongs, but the system works in spite of the incorrect mounting.

Both systems were purchased from Kufatec. Auto Hold was quite simple, the Park Assist, a bit more challenging

I believe Audi don't offer autohold in NA market, I have no idea why, Volkswagen and other brands do have the function available , that means it's not disabled due to the law like the matrix light .

Hey! I am also trying to install auto hold on a 2018 a4 allroad, got the kit and wiring from aliexpress so i just need to find the right pins to place them in for the main harness in the driver footwell. honestly just want to make sure which pin i need wire the switch to as i dont want to mess things up! cant find a diagram anywhere online about where i can make sure im connecting it to the right pin. if you can point me in the right direction that'd be great!
