CarPlay & Android Auto Replacement Head Unit?

I've been tempted by them, but my concern is the quality of the Android tablet part, and the likelihood of getting service. I've not had good success with el-cheapo Android tablets.
4x4shop sells them too. I don't have any experience with 4x4shop, but they have been around for awhile, so they might be reliable for service.

In general you should try to avoid purchasing from overseas vendor, whether it be a simple Carplay kit, or one with the whole replacement dash fascia and a larger display integrated. Those really look cool, but it's a fair amount of work to install, and no guarantees on how long that display/tablet unit is going to hold up; read the threads and ratings carefully, and form your own conclusion.
If you need to get Carplay or the fancier dash kit, do try to source it from a vendor that stands behind their returns/warranty process, and is easy to work with in that regard, such as Amazon, or other local vendor you trust.
Choose well!

So....I just purchased the unit from 4x4 Shop Canada and will post updates, pics, and notes on the install process once I receive it.
Many thanks again!
but glad I bought from them thanks to this forum and recommendations of caution from the Chinese brands.
I’ll definitely be following this thread.
The harness has a bunch of pony tail wires that are capped and not connected / don’t seem to be used, even though they are labeled with things I would consider important (ACC power, etc.).
Surely I’m missing something simple?

I finished the install -- after realizing the wire harness also needed to be attached to the climate control unit at the bottom of the center stack -- and everything put back together nicely.
BUT, several issues are now popping up:
1. Seems like the GPS doesn't retain the memory of the location and map, neither for the Android navigation or the classic Audi interface. For example, my car jumps around on the Android map, and/or when I use the classic Audi interface, the map zooms to random scale and not the scale it was set before turning the car off. Is this a power issue? Are any of those extra wires dangling from the new harness an opportunity to fix this? For further explanation, since the GPS splitter provided did not have the correct fasteners, I have the factory GPS antenna still plugged into the OEM MMI unit, then I attached the new GPS antenna provided with the headunit directly to the headunit (so I have two GPS antennas, the OEM and the new one).
2. The CarPlay app my unit uses, ZLink, freezes and reboots CarPlay after using for ~ 10 minutes. ZLink will not reconnect after that unless I fully reboot the headunit. My current APK for ZLink is 3.8.8 and I've found this video for updating ZLink and I'll give that a try (
3. Pressing the camera button on the dash doesn't work unless I've already activated the classic Audi interface. This is annoying because I use that all the time when pulling into parking spots, but it's not a deal-breaker.
4. OBDEleven is showing three consistent faults now:
- Valet parking indicator lamp (Fault code: 02894) I assume this is because the Valet button was removed with the new dash design, but want to be sure and would love to silence/fix this fault.
- Front information display control head (Fault code: 02259)
- Left front microphone (Fault code: 02168)
5. Would like to switch to MPH instead of KPH, but can't find where to do this...?
6. Can I change the picture of the car on the main screen from a Q5 to a Q7?
7. Factory button functions are a little wonky. For example, if I have the factory radio playing but am in the Android interface, I can use the "back" and steering wheel buttons but not the "seek" buttons. I know there are a few other scenarios similar to this, but I can't think of them right now.
Warmly welcome any thoughts or advice!
