Default Lease or Finance in Current Times

The 2023 SQ5 that I ordered is now in the dealer lot. Question is whether to finance or lease in the current climate. Apparently, Audi has financing at 2.99% for 60 months right now. Seems pretty good to me. But, I can get a 36 month/15K miles one pay lease with 0.00077MF (0.00077 - 0.00060) and 54%RV. That residual value seems very low. But would it matter?

There is apparently $1,000 - $1,500 for lease loyalty that I would not get if I financed. The $1,000 Costco discount would apply for financing or leasing if I pick up the car before May15th.

What would you do?

Beware - we just bought a Q5 last month and were told that Audi Finance requires a credit number of 850 or above to qualify for tier 1 finance rate.

Good to know. I've qualified already but maybe not for this month's promotions. And if worse comes to worse, I can just buyout my 2019 SQ5, though it does have over 65K miles on it.

Highest credit score you can have is 850, that can't be right.

That's what I thought.
Dealer finance manager said high was 900.
I did a quick Google and there appears to be a model that has 900 as top using other scoring methods.

Or - Audi has a way to advertise a great interest rate that the can deny 99.99% of applicants,
Or,
The dealer is fleecing me to get an extra 1% interest.

When I check the three credit reporting agencies, regular/mortgage FICO scores go up to 850. Auto/credit card FICO scores go up to 900.

It depends on what company they use. I had an 870. Got the special financing.

Question remains, whether I should buy or lease. My concern with buying (more than leasing) is that, given the current economic climate, once paid off after 5 years, the car likely will be worth a lot less than the purchase price. At least with the lease, I can get out after 3 years.

I don’t really understand what you are saying. Of course the car is going to be worth less than the purchase price. It’s 5 years old. With a loan, you can get out whenever you want. Or you can keep it. I’ve never really understood leasing, unless it was for tax purposes. I’m no expert.

The issue is that the vehicle will be depreciated even more than what you expected when you bought the car. Hence the buy option looks good but may not be.
