Default Audi A6 C7 Stiff suspension issue.

Hello guys, I recently bought a used A6 C7 Audi 2.0 TDI 177ps Sline edition and I must say that the suspension on that thing is very very stiff. Due to bad condition of the road in my place I was forced to change suspension with standard model of A6 C7 which increased high of my Audi but stiffness stil remained. Few days ago I bought new shocks (Sachs made) for standard model of A6 but ride is still stiff, no change, just throw 400e for nothing. I just want to know, why Audi couldn't make a sedan which can have comfort ride same as any Citroen does for example???

What's your definition of stiff? I have the sport suspension on mine, I find it firm, compared to my older '09 A6 suspension. But I still don't find it "stiff". I drive in construction sites and dirt roads often with this car. I still don't find it stiff.

Are you hearing noises or klunks when you drive? How does the car feel when you physically push on each corner of the car. Should move freely and bounce back smoothly with no noise.

It's too stiff, it’s literally impossible to drive on rough roads. The car bounces as if I’m driving a tractor, not an Audi A6. When I try to push the car into a corner, it doesn’t bounce but just returns and instantly stabilizes, and this happens at all four corners. It's unrealistic for the car to be this rigid; it feels every little bump in the road and behaves as if it has no shock absorbers at all." I can't hear nothing at all when driving. I repeat, I installed new shocks few days ago.

Have you changed any of the suspension bushings?? Maybe not "preload" the bushings properly before final tightening?

Maybe you should have bought an SE version rather than S-Line, which has different springs. Did the previous owner replace the factory springs with different ones. Changing the shocks will only be half the answer if the springs have been changed to provide a tauter ride they will need changing too. Also here in the UK the S-Line trim comes with two options for prints. The standard one gives a 20mm drop from normal ride height and the option drops that a further 10m. Maybe you have the latter. Look on the build sheet (inside handbook or in the spare wheel area) and see if it has 1BE (standard S-Line) or 1BV (sport S-Line) code under options. 1BA is the normal dynamic suspension that is used on the SE

Previous owner haven't replaced anything, I replaced factory Sline springs with a standard ones which I found on crashed A6 standard model, now overall height of car is maybe 4-5 cm higher than with original springs. Couldn't find where is can se the version.

Tires can make a big difference too. Install the smallest diameter wheels that will fit so that you can get more sidewall, which helps with bad roads. I swapped the stock 19" wheels out for 18" wheels and found a nice improvement on my A6.

I came across this older discussion and wanted to add my two cents. Have you checked the tire pressure recently? Overly inflated tires can make the ride feel much stiffer. Also, consider getting an alignment check, as improper alignment can affect ride comfort. Sometimes it's the little things!
