Default Thule Cross bars

What up! Wondering if anyone else has the Thule cross bars on their rig? I recently picked up the set of Wingbar Edge (104cm and 113cm) with the Thule Edge Fixpoint and the associated "fit kit" for the flush rails on the Q7. Last night I was installing and I ran into 2 potential issues. First issue is the way the bars fit kind of high. The rubber foot on the Fit Kit just seems to raise the bases of the bars kind of high to my liking. When I google search "Thule Q7" I see others with a similar setup but do not look as high up. The other issue is the rear (113 cm) bar is too wide. I seem to have about an inch too much cross bar to with on the rubber pads. All the part numbers were confirmed to fit my Q7 by Thule themselves.

I plan on calling Thule to inquire but through I'd see if anyone had similar experiences.

I have the older Aeroblade Edge Thule bars, so can't really help - but found this
which shows the Windbar Edge that look (at least to me) positioned similar to how you have them

THank you. Yeah those are basically my same exact setup. Okay. Now I just need to figure out why my rear bar is too wide..

Did You try to push bar "deep enough"? I Somehow I recall that I was wondering similar case as well, but then I just pushed bar deeper of this fixpoint.

Of course it is possible that bar is wrong or item# correct but wrong item.

Thule items:
  • Thule Edge Fixpoint (720700)
  • Thule Kit (187005) (Rubber part)
  • Thule WingBar Edge 104 (721500)
  • Thule WingBar Edge 113 (721600)
This set is a bit high to my taste as well.

I went with the aero bars. It mounts exactly like your pictures. It does seem that the design could be improved. The fix point block looks strange but I confirmed with an installer that both the parts and the way it looks is correct.

The audi mount looks slightly more flush but still has a fix point type mount and I found the Thule bars to be a better build and look better.

two different size bars are needed. The 41” and the 44”. If I remember correctly the longer bar goes on the front and the shorter bar on the rear position. Maybe yours are swapped?

THANK YOU! I had them reversed. I still think they're rather high but I'm over all happy with them.

UPDATE: So I found someone on OfferUp selling their Thule bars from a Q7 with the Thule 3145 fit kit. I picked them up for a great deal and they look WAY better IMO. I really wonder what THULE was thinking with the new design. I'll probably just sell the set I bought new.

That looks very nice!!!

With quick search this "Thule fit kit 3145" is connection piece including rubber part attaching to roofbar.

But what is Thule item # for this part which is between actual bar and "3145"?

https://www.roofracks.co.uk/pdf/3145.pdf

In my town there is second hand 3145 kit available but it is with 753 legs.

Yeah I'm way happier with how these look. I was never satisfied with the way the first ones looked. Plus the fact that all the parts including the fit kit cost me a round $600! Go figure, I got the second set on OfferUo for $175 in almost new condition. I can't find that part # either. When I get a chance I'll pop off one of the covers and find a # for you.
