Default Piston skirt @ 60k - keep or trade?

So my 2022 Allroad has the piston skirt issue, started around 50k from noise I was hearing. The dealer is replacing the pistons and has assured me there was no damage to the cylinder wall. I'm skeptical and expect that I will find increased, and increasing, oil consumption over time. I also am not fully confident in their engine building skills as that's not what they typically do.

The bottom line is I've lost confidence in the car. I really like it, great combination of performance and features, but I need reliability and don't want to face a major repair out of warranty (hybrid system, timing chain, etc). I've had numerous Audis and had good luck up to around 125k miles and would like to keep this one that long, but it looks like Audi has lost the plot when it comes to quality.

Should I keep it a while, or get out while I can and find something else?

Nobody else is answering this as from your post it sounds like you've already made up your mind. But from what I know Audi extended the warranty on this engine up to 8 years or 80K miles so I'd assume even after having the car repaired under this warranty which I assume the dealer is covering this repair although you didn't say, but if the warranty is up to 80K miles and it sounds like your at 50K miles now why not keep on driving the car up to the end of the warranty for the piston skirt issue?

While the car is under warranty its not really an issue. Keep it.

That's a good reminder that I still have no idea if that extended warranty applies to my car.
As I understand Audi sent out a letter to owners in the second half of 2025 notifying them of warranty extension.
I obviously didn't get it as I purchased the car around November.
For owners that didn't receive the letter for whatever reason, is there a way to understand if they are covered?

Default An update, post-repair

After the 60k mile service, the dealer ordered new pistons to make the repair. I brought the car back and they had it for 2 weeks (after initially saying just a "few days"), and I picked it up a couple of days ago. The description of the repair took half a page and the parts list took almost 3 pages. Wow, lots of little doodads!

Anyway, the car sounds fine now and drives normally. It's too soon to tell if I will see increased oil consumption (or any other problems). I'm still on the fence about keeping it as I don't have an extended warranty and I know how expensive unexpected repairs can get.

For anyone else, when you get past 50k, keep an ear out for this issue; I suspect it will be pretty common.

Just curious, what did this sound like? I feel like when my car is first started after sitting so cold its a bit loud a rattly. I noticed while looking at the sway bar links that it looks like the passenger side engine mount is leaking so Im curious if the noise is the engine mount collapsed of if its something else.

This could be it but it's hard to tell in a recording. In my case, it was a light tapping sound, mostly when the engine was cold. You could also hear it under acceleration as a slight metallic sound.

When I first called the dealers attention to the sound, they knew what it was right away. If you're under 80k.miles, it should be covered, just have the dealer diagnose it.

Good deal, yea I have that noise when cold and was wondering about it for a while. Supposedly its only pistons on one side of the engine. I dont know what side thought? Im hoping that its the passenger side because im hoping I can get them to change my engine mounts while they are there.
