Hi All, new to the group and to the Audi world. Having fun with my 2018 S5 cabrio with a custom 3d printed iphone holder. Didn't like the ones out there as they either covered the vent or were too low by the cup holders. I think it came out pretty nice and with the mag safe charger. It was the design for my C8 corvette from Proclips but they didn't make one for the Audi so after a couple of iterations I got it to work, then wrapped it in some carbon fiber vinyl.
Nice job! I love 3d printing, so I think this is a very cool project. What filament did you use? That thing is going to get very hot sitting in the sun all day. You can buy some mounts that work just like that, but I love the idea of making one yourself.

I used the ePLA-CF (carbon fiber) but yes you are correct, my first ones deformed in the hot dash with the Sun. So I made them thicker with a vertical support piece also that double sticks to the side of the mmi screen. That seemed to do the trick as it is 100 degs now with no sag.
Serious question. With CarPlay and AndroidPlay available, what is the purpose of having a phone holder?
I have the older MMI w/o the touch screen and apps that don't work with well with Car Play so it nice to have the full iphone screen + features when you need it. But mostly Car Play works for 80% of my uses so you are correct there.
This is very similar to the mount where there is a holder that snaps around the edges of the MMI screen and then on one side provides the phone mount.
