2027 Audi Q7's Third Generation Revealed with 591-HP V-8 Sibling

Just makes me even more upset about the mediocre power "gains" gen over gen for B10. The S5 can't even get a full 15hp to make up for the 300lbs of weight while the Q7 moves up a full power class for each level (Q7 matching B9 RS5 and C8 S6, SQ7 matching RSQ8). I understand the reasoning mostly, being largely related to the intended markets and the emissions regulations of the US vs the EU, but still annoying to see after rumors of the S5 getting the 2.9T turning out to be nothing.

TBH the Q7 (and Q9) getting the 2.9 makes me think it's even more likely the S5 might get the 2.9 in the mid-cycle update.

It's otherwise going to be DOA against the 443hp C53 and 420hp M350.

If anything, this just sorta makes the whole situation even more weird to me. The main argument for keeping the 3.0T is that it's the MLB/PPC corporate engine, almost every model in the lineup uses it. Except now it's not in the Q7, Q9, presumably Q8 (if that still exists), Panamera, Touareg, or Macan. The Cayenne is the only mass-produced car other than the S5, SQ5, and A6 that still has the 3.0T. I wouldn't be too shocked if these all swapped over to the 2.9T, but then at the same time Audi spent enough resources to keep the 3.0T variant Euro 7 compliant, so who knows what the long term plan is here.

I can see the 3.0T coming back to the Q7 a year later as the "base" engine to replace the 2.0T.

But I can also see the 3.0T being phased out in all US Audis and replace with the 2.9tt. Cayenne is due for a 2nd refresh soon and that might lose the 3.0 who knows.

The EU7 compliance doesn't matter if 2.9TT without hybridization is a US-only affair.

Only North America gets the 2.9TT V6. The rest of the world gets a diesel 3.0T V6 MHEV and the gasoline 3.0T V6 MHEV or PHEV.

Just saw the SQ7 is NA-exclusive. That starts to make things even more clear about why the Q7 is getting the big boy powertrains and not the B10 or even the new A6. Honestly almost makes me think we might see an ICE-only RSQ5 exclusive to NA as well.

You mind linking a source for the petrol 3.0T? I only see the TDI on the press release.

On the Porsche side, the Macan and Panamera had both dropped the 3.0 for a detuned 2.9 years ago. But the Cayenne still sticks with the 3.0. I assume the PPC Q7 change goes hand in hand with the PPC Cayenne to be dropping the 3.0 for the 2.9 also.
It's crazy to think they can push the 2.9 to 500 bhp but can't even get 400 bhp out of the 3.0. But the 3.0 is the b-cycle efficiency focus engine of the V6 pair, same as the b-cycle version of the 2.0 vs the normal 2.0.

I'm a bit surprised the Q7 entry model will be 400+ bhp. That's going to move the entry price for the Q7 way up. I bet they add a 2.0, or 2.0 hybrid, at some point.
With the Q7 remaining a two row or three row vehicle, wonder if the two row only smaller Q8 will update to PPC or not.
The Cayenne-E is "now" out. Wondering when the matching new "Q7 e-tron" or whatever is going to show up. Maybe they figure the e-tron will offset the emissions of only having high power ICE models?

I don't think there's a Q8 planned unfortunately, probably whatever offroad lifestyle car they might build will replace it.

I think they’ll keep it. They make a ton of money off the RSQ8 which is surprisingly popular given its cost.
