How screwed am I? Sunshade getting stuck crunching sound(video link)
Hi I have a Audi q5 2015, the sunshade is stuck and it has plastic crunching sound whenever it tries to move. It's probably not worth repairing at this point via the dealership. I did get it checked out during a service, they said no issues noticed but obviously they didn't check properly or didn't want to charge me extra for the diagnostic since it's pretty much toast anyway. It's not under warranty, I just extended my Audi care would it be possible to get it covered under it? Here's the youtube link:

To find out what you're really dealing with, you're going to have to drop the headliner and then the sunroof frame and inspect where/how the fabric is hung up. Could be one of the guides that connect the fabric roll to the "extender" has broke; they're just plastic. But it's all blind guess without eyes on the actual fault.
Looks like the sunshade unit is mounted to the frame quite differently in a Q5 than the avant. You might be able to see issue with just the headliner down, or not.
If you have a warranty, I would expect this to be covered under it.

I did a DIY on mine - it wasn't hard - just time consuming. You can get a new roll shade for under $50. You need to remove the glass to get at the rails - and you seat the new shade from the trunk headliner - there is a write up somewhere I followed. With pictures. Mine has been fine now for 3-4 years, granted I dont open it often

A 2015 will not be under warranty. A dealer will ask $2500-3000 and a good indy shop half of that. It is not entirely irrational to use a sharp razor blade and cut the sagging mess out, leaving just the moonroof. Or adding a tint under the glass.
But keep digging, some of these guys HAVE finessed the old one out and replaced it. A long day or weekend--even if you get enough details to get clear on it.
