Hmm... that's a tough one. My mom drives an X5. I like it. There are several things about it which are nice. However, I would strongly consider the Allroad alternative, unless you plan to really be doing a lot of terrain driving. (Come to think of it, I'd probably have a look at something like a Rover instead, if I was looking at significant off-road use.) The X5 has a much higher CG than does the Allroard, and thus the potential for spirited street use is much reduced. Having driven both, I'd go with the Audi and its proven 2.7T because I know that realistically, I want a vehicle that is a bunch of fun for every day driving as well as capable in snow, ice, and in mild to midline off-road situations when they come.
