what cleaner wax or other product do you guys recommend for removing some pretty tough water spots?

Meguiars Fine Cut Cleaner, then Meguiars Swirl Remover.

I've heard someone say the swirl remover should only be used if absolutely neccesary just a FYI

Check out "Mothers" products phase I, phase II and phase III. Once you apply all 3, your arm will be sore, but your car will look like new. This is the best stuff around.
