Default No.

People on AW trust their tuners way too much. I'm just realizing this as I read more and more about tuning the WRX. You'll need a good TC that will last a while. And you'll need to tap it into the manifold near the hottest cylinder.

Default TC? Tap into the manifold?

Are there egt senders in the cat or exhaust somewhere you could tap into? Or are they junk?

Default Best spot to to tap an EGT is off the exhaust manifold...

...on which ever runner runs the hottest.

Default But it matters what your trying to watch. That is a good spot if your looking at tuning the car or

watching temps for the pistons. Putting it after the turbo is good if you want to watch the turbo exhaust temps. I would put it there since I push a lot of boost.

Default Okay, so let's say I wanted to do this...

How would I mount the thermocouple? (Not even sure what that is.)

And where is the sensor (TC?) that the computer uses for EGT? Using VAG-COM I noticed what I assumed was an EGT reading, as it was showing *very* high temps under hard acceleration. Where is that sensor? And what sort of temps should be consider maximum safe at that sensor? How about at the exhaust manifold like Sal suggested, or after the turbo like CMH suggested?

Default The EGT reading you see on the vag com is from the O2 sensor. You do not want to go by that. You

will need a EGT gauge and a probe. I have the gauge in my car but have not yet put in the probe. The best place to put the probe is right into the exhaust side of the turbo housing.
