Does anyone know what the little LED just above the volume knob is for?

Does anyone know what the little LED just above the volume **** is for?

There is one above the tuner **** as well.
I thought it was a power on light but I have never seen it come on?

I thought this was a detector to adjust the brightness of the display...

... if you hold your finger over it or shine light at it, the display brightness changes.

i don't think that is it.

I was wondering the same when i got the car. thought it was a reset button: no.
thought it was a Led: doesn't look to be. manual has no mention of it yet the pictures clearly show it.
light dimmer, i tried and has no effect on my lighting. I just went down to confirm and it doesn't change on my 2000.

hmmm... no clue. you got me!
