Default what makes a chip perform...

ok.. i have read most of everything i can... but really i dont understand how the chip can make the turbo perform better when the chip is electronic and the turbo is mechanical. could someone please help to explain this to me a little better.

i know i do not own an 1.8t thats not why im asking. im wondering here because what is stopping you guys from changing out turbos without chipping issues... why does the chip matter so much when the actual turbo has no connection to it.

TIA

Default Not a pro, but it basically remaps the fuel control, timing (maybe) and increases.....

the pressure at which the turbo will bypass, thus the .8, 1.0, 1.2 etc. "bar" nomenclature, describing the pressure the turbo will output. I believe the stock is ~0.5 bar. Again, not an expert so corrections are welcome.

Default ok... you make sense... but........

how does the chip affect the bypass... isnt that a mechanical component? there doesnt seem to be a physical connection. i know that the chips free up avalible HP by changing the fuel consumption and all... but i dont see why a turbo swap to a bigger turbo would need a new chip to make it work right. i really dont get it... i know it works but i see that it does.

Default Basically, the boost is electronically controlled (via the wastgate) on the A4

and the ecu/chip controls this

Default so the wastegate is electronically controlled...

so the wastegate is what connects the turbo to the chip. so why is it that the apr chips arent used with the k04? why not mix and match the systems? does the boost control at the wastegate mean that much?

Default yes your ecu "control" everything..

air/fuel ration, valve timing, spark timing, ....
and they have sensor everywhere to monitor the differnt values.

if you have a bigger turbo with "old" fuel mapping, the turbo might be blowing to much air in yet the ecu/chip was not designed to handle that much boost, rendering the big turbo not as useful.

however, since stock are are meant to run "forever" by average driver, they are set at say the 60% mark of efficiency, and a chip would raised it to sa 85% giving you the extra yet somewhat save for daily driving. of course other parts, say bpv was designed to handled the boost of the stock turbo at 60% and if you give it 85%, it will leak.
