Default Son of a ...! Just got a recall notice in the mail.....

Some of you may remember that back in May I had a faulty ignition switch fry my starter.
I replaced both myself, cost me $250 and a weekend's time. There was a recall out, but I was told by the dealer and AoA that my VIN wasn't included.

So I get a recall notice for, you guessed it, faulty ignition switches on my car (letter says "some 1996 and 1997 model year Audi A4 vehicles").

So what do I do? I'm looking for a refund. I'm sure the dealer will just tell me to call AoA.

Is asking for reimbursment of parts and labor asking too much?
I can probably get a quote for parts and labor for a switch and starter replacement from the dealer.
I'd be happy with just parts, but if I can be reimbursed for my time, I'll take it

Default I had a similar situation with my Honda CRX once...

The ignitor went bad and the car wouldn't start. I had it towed to the dealer and paid for replacement. A few months later, there was a recall and there were instructions to send in the receipt to get my money back (parts/labor), since I had it fail previously. I also could have had it replaced again for free, but didn't.

Check with AoA.

Default Just 96 and 97 MY's?(longish)

I think I had this problem in my 1998 2.8. The secondary air pump kept cycling overnight and discharged the battery. No MIL or DTC's and I'm at a loss to explain.....all components tested fine per Bentley and the only other component that could have been cycling it is the ECU which is normally off with the key removed. I could see condition of the ignition not off with key removed could trigger the air pump if the coolant was cool AND the ECU getting a signal of the engine turning. The latter could be a temp fault due to the improper switching of the power.....

Default I had mine repaired by Audi pre recall

The dealer said last year that he knew this was coming and was a frequent issue. He replaced it for free. This problem was all over this board last year. I can't answer your problem exactly, however, Audi does everything and anything to avoid PR SNAFU's. I think if you called and explained to a manager they would help you.

Default What happened on mine, is when running, the headlights, wipers, etc wouldn't work...

unless I jiggled the key. The next day I drove to work, and when I went to leave, turned the key, and nothing. I had to push start the damn thing to get it running.

Default GET IT REPLACED NOW!!!!!!

that's exactly what happened to me, and the next day, the starter was toast. If you don't want to pay an additional $250 + labor (starter replacement) do it ASAP.

The ignition switch is $30, and takes less than an hour to replace at a dealer.
