Eric,
Here's the story...originally when Ed approached me to do this cell phone thing it was far less ambitious than it has become. The first design was merely some circuitry to glue the Nokia board into the cars electronics...well it turns out doing this wasn't very easy as the phone has some quirks. So a board was designed...and it worked quite well...at this point we both got quite excited, a business opportunity was clearly waiting to be had. The decision was made that in order for this to work well we needed to sever all ties to the Nokia electronics and emulate all of those functions ourselves, trust me there are many...charging batteries...power amp...mic pre-amp...road noise filters...mute interface...replacement mic board for 8290 users (that's a complicated subject)...etc.
Last weekend was when the one remaining hurdle was leapt. It has been months of toiling and procrastinating...but alas we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Ed has sent out the cables from the Nokia car kit to a cable manufacturer for quotation (they're proprietary...we need to copy the design of the cable). I'm going to spin another prototype which will be 100% our own design...not a single Nokia component in sight...this is a big step for us. Once that happens we'll tweak the design for better performance if any can be had...and more importantly ease of auto insertion as they will be built by automated machinery.
I think you can expect to see them in two or less months...this weekend is shot because of DubWar...but after that I'm clearing my plate to finish this one off...I thank you for your patience and assure you the wait will be worth it.
Best Regards,
James Reedy
Jussnb - you were copied cause your smart *** always has something to say ;-) you know you want one just as much as the next guy...but you don't have to get nasty about it ;-) BTW - Chances are we'll take a look at other Nokia phones in hopes they're similar enough that they can be accomodated with just a few component value changes and a new cable...
