Default Cellular Phone...again...

Just a quick question for those that have successfully integrated a phone into the hands free portion on the A4 - What type of phone are you using and how easy was it to integrate? I checked the forum and I saw some with a Motorola and one with a Nokia. I am about to buy a new Digital phone (have the Ericsson Digital and am not happy w/ it). I really want to wire it into the existing hands free setup.
Thanks in advance!

Default Both Motorolla and Nokia are fairly easy...

I will be posting a FAQ over the hollidays for all on the Nokia 61xx series integration that consists of both details and a summation of what three of us A4 owners have done/found(A4.ORG readers). I find that the Nokias are more preferable for me and my in car kit works well - with the exception of the integrated Audi microphone. Something is slightly different on my 98.5 Avant from the included Nokia mic(impedance/resistance maybe?). The Audi mic works but barely. I found it much easier to velcro the Nokia mic onto the side of the cradle. Blends in perfectly and works much better.
BTW, mine is a Nokia 6160, dual band digital/analog w/ pager and text email service nationwide(AT&T is provider).
98.5 A4QMS2.8 Avant

Default Re: problem with the mic

My guess the about the mic problems is due to difference in resistance in the mic. The mic and circuitry are designed together. It may be possible to add some resistors to get the stock mic to work. However, I have never tried this.
Paul

Default trying Sony Z100

After the new year (when the parts come in and I have some free time) I'm going to try to integrate my Sony CMZ100 phone. I'll be sure to post my results.

Default Ericsson AH630 analog

I have fitted an analog Ericsson with the handsfree kit from Ericsson into the armrest. It works well with the Audi microphone and I got the radio to mute when the phone rings!
Pierre

Default Re: Cellular Phone...again...

I successfully installed a Motorola "PortaPak" bag phone in my 1998.5 A4 yesterday; it uses the A-pillar handsfree microphone (plug & play). It does *not* mute the stereo or use the speaker in the door, but I don't see that as a major problem. I just had a glass-mount antenna installed on the rear window, fished around under the carpet in the trunk for the 25-pin connector, attached the phone transceiver, and plugged the handset into the jack under the armrest.
The PortaPak is an inexpensive alternative to the Motorola 2900 car phone; I paid $20 for it (with a 1-year cellular contract), while the 2900 would have cost $100.
Now I just have to figure out where to mount the handset...
