Default Raybestos

Just stopped by a local tire shop today asking about the raybestos brake pads. I told him that I wanted to replace my audi pads for raybestos due to the excessive brake dust problem. He told me that Audi parts are made of excellent quality that he would not recommend me changing the pads. He said that although raybestos are quite good, it definitely is not even of comparable quality to Audi pads. He also mentioned that they might squeak more than the audi pads. Anyone have comments on what I should do? Are the Audi pads that much better that I will be losing out on quality of the pads?
Chris K
98.5 1.8TQAS TAP STAGE II

I have the Raybestos pads on the front and rear of my Avant with no ill effects. Braking feels as strong as stock and the brake dust is literally gone. Jason also has the pads and now he doesn't wash his car enough because the wheels don't get as dirty. Raybestos life time warranty is hard to beat. Check out Brake Parts Warehouse ( one of our sponsors for great pricing.
NeilM

I trust that Neil is right because I'm having a set installed today. At ~$100 a set, they can't be too bad - you know?

Default Don't exist for 98 A4?

Talked to the guy at the brake shop today. He said Raybestos havent even made the pads for the 98 models yet. He called around and even contacted RAYBESTOS and they said they are not available?!?!
What have you guys with 98 A4's used ? Do you have the model #? Maybe the 97 and 98 share the same calipers and that's what everyone here has been using? He's a pretty honest guy and he when he told me that he contacted Raybestos and they don't have the pads I believe him. Any suggestions??
Chris K
98.5 1.8TQAS TAP STAGE II

My Raybestos are the 555M.
All '92-> 100, A6 and '96-> A4 use the same pad in the front, only those for the 100/A6 come with wear sensors. I bought those and will soon throw together a simple CMOS logic circuit to enable the pad wear sensors to work on, say, the brake reservoir float triggering contact.
The rears are the same as on my 200TQ. I use the readily available, totally dust-free Axxis (a.k.a. PBR, a.k.a. REPCO in the past) Deluxes. Awesome.
Igor Kessel
Two turbo quattros
